Liquid crystal display device

A display device includes a prism sheet between a display cell and a light guiding plate. The prism sheet includes a plurality of prisms having a constant apex angle continuously arranged in a second direction on a surface thereof opposed to a light-exiting surface of the light guiding plate. Each of ridge lines of the prisms extends in a first direction. Each prism has a first inclined face on a side on which light from the light guiding plate is incident and a second inclined face on a side reflecting the incident light. An area of the first inclined face is made smaller than an area of the second inclined face, and an area of a light-emitting region in the prism sheet is made larger than an area of a non-light-emitting region.

To provide a thin liquid crystal display device featuring excellent color reproducibility. The liquid crystal display panel includes: a liquid crystal display panel outputting different colors on a per-pixel basis; and a backlight. The backlight includes: a light source; a light guide; a reflective sheet on a back side of the light guide; and a group of optical sheets including a wavelength converter and disposed between the liquid crystal display panel and the light guide. The wavelength converter has a structure where quantum dots are dispersed in a transparent medium. The wavelength converter is bonded to another optical medium by means of a diffusing adhesive. Nanoparticles for developing Rayleigh scattering are dispersed in the wavelength converter.

According to an aspect, a display device includes: an image display panel; and a planar light source including a light guide plate and an edge-lit light source, the light guide plate illuminating the image display panel from a back side, the edge-lit light source including a plurality of light sources arranged facing a plane of incidence; and a controller that controls luminance of each of the light sources independently. The controller stores therein, as lookup tables for the respective light sources, information on light intensity distributions of light that is incident on the light guide plate from the respective light sources and is emitted to a plane of the image display panel from the light guide plate, and controls a light quantity of each of the light sources based on information on an input signal of an image, and on the lookup tables.

A liquid crystal display device includes: a light guide plate including a front surface, a back surface and an edge surface, the light guide plate being arranged such that the edge surface faces a light source, the light guide plate internally reflecting light incident from the edge surface and causing surface emission from the front surface; a liquid crystal display panel; and a reflective sheet arranged so as to face the back surface of the light guide plate. The back surface includes a first portion and a second portion. A surface of the second portion is located at a position recessed relatively from a surface of the first portion. The surface of the first portion is a rough surface. The surface of the second portion is a smooth surface. The reflective sheet is in contact with the first portion but avoids contact with the second portion.

Provided is a display device including: a light guide plate arranged so that an edge surface thereof is opposed to a light source, the light guide plate being configured to internally reflect light entering from the edge surface to cause planar light emission from a front surface of the light guide plate; and a reflective sheet arranged so as to be opposed to a rear surface of the light guide plate. Irregularities are formed on the front surface. A lighting device including a light source, a light guide plate, a first prism sheet which is arranged over the light guide plate, and a second prism sheet which is arranged between the first prism sheet and the light guide plate. The first prism sheet includes first prisms which are formed parallel to each other in the first direction on a first surface which is opposite to the second prism sheet, and the second prism sheet includes second prisms.

A lightguide to be used in a liquid crystal display device includes a light exit surface, a reflection surface opposed to the light exit surface, and a light entrance surface, which is one side surface. In a region of the light exit surface or the reflection surface, which is on a front side of an intermediate portion between two light sources when viewed from the light entrance surface, a plurality of local-area line-shaped protrusions are arranged, which are extending in a first direction. Each of the local-area line-shaped protrusions reflects the entered light so that a component of the entered light which is orthogonal to the first direction is weakened. A length of a local-area line-shaped protrusion farthest from the two adjacent light sources, is larger than a length of a local-area line-shaped protrusion closest to any one of the two adjacent light sources.

To prevent, in a backlight where light emitting diodes are arranged on a side surface of a light guide plate, light leakage from a reflection sheet and reduce non-uniformity of emission light from the backlight. In a liquid crystal display device that includes a backlight that irradiates a liquid crystal panel with light, LEDs are disposed as light emitting elements on a light guide plate that is disposed in the backlight, a reflection sheet that comprises a multilayer film is disposed on a bottom surface of the light guide plate, projections are disposed by sandblasting on the bottom surface of the light guide plate in the vicinity of the LEDs, and tight adhesion between the reflection sheet and the light guide plate is prevented. In the vicinity of the LEDs, in order to counter light non-uniformity, reflecting grooves are not disposed and it is a mirror surface, but tight adhesion can be prevented by disposing the projections.
