In a thermal head comprising at least a pair of electrodes (3), (4), (13), (14), resistor layers (2), (12) in contact against both the electrodes (3), (4), (13), (14), basic plates (1), (11) for supporting the electrodes (3), (4), (13), (14) and the resistor layers (2), (12), the resistor layers (2), (12) are composed of the matrix of the glass and the metal and/or oxide of the resistor component element penetrated into the gap of the atomic coupling of the matrix. The resistor layers (2), (12) are made of paste containing the organic compound of the resistor component element, and the organic compound of the glass matrix component element or glass frit. The thermal head is homogeneous in the resistor layer thereof, and gives the recordings of superior quality.

Thermal head

A burner skeleton made of a composition including calcium aluminate and a silica compound. The calcium aluminate contains 15 to 40 wt % of lime, 35 to 80 wt % of alumina and 0.3 to 20 wt % of iron oxide. The composition may include titanium oxide.

Burner skeleton

A vertical apparatus for continuously carbonizing and activating various types of fiber materials. The apparatus comprising a chamber having openings at upper and lower portions thereof, at least one port through which an activating gas is passed for activation of the fiber material and a heater for keeping the temperature in the chamber, a means for vertically passing the fiber material in a continuous manner for the carbonization and activation, and a means for supplying the activating gas into the chamber. A method for continuously carbonizing and activating fiber materials in an efficient manner is also described.

A ceramic having improved thermal shock resistance is produced by a method comprising firing a mixture comprising at least one compound selected from the group consisting of a sulfate, nitrate, carbonate, oxide, hydroxide, acetate and oxalate of an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal, titanium oxide, rehydratable alumina, optionally silica and optionally a rare earth element compound at a temperature in the range of 1,000.degree. C. to 1,300.degree. C.

Apparatus for carbonizing and activating fiber materials

Catalysts of reduced cost, for purifying exhaust gases, having smaller thermal expansion coefficients than conventional catalysts, good mechanical strength and large specific surface area are provided at low temperatures. The composition composed of at least re-hydrable alumina, an alkali or alkaline earth metal titanate and fused silica is thermally processed at comparatively low temperatures so as to provide ceramic catalyst carriers which have superior properties.

Catalyst for purifying exhaust gas

A burner has a combustion body supporting a platinum-group catalyst. An air-fuel mixture is supplied to the combustion body and combusted primarily on the upstream surface of the combustion body. A heat-transmissive body is disposed for discharging heat radiation from the upstream surface of the combustion body. The burner has a greater heat radiation efficiency and a wider range in which the amount of combustion is variable than conventional catalytic combustion burners.

An electric double layer capacitor having polarizable electrodes including activated carbon fibers which are fully activated and have a large specific surface area, and a method for making the same. Each of the polarizable electrodes is composed of an activated carbon element having a surface fiber ratio (total geometric surface area of fabric/total geometric surface area of secondary fibers or strands) of 0.01 or more. Each activated carbon element is in the form of a woven fabric, nonwoven fabric, felt or the like including activated carbon fibers.

Electric double layer capacitor and method for producing the same

A liquid fuel combustion apparatus for evaporating and vaporizing kerosene, gas oil or like liquid fuel by heating, admixing air with the vaporized fuel in a specified ratio and burning the resulting gaseous mixture in a combustion unit. The vaporizer for the liquid fuel comprises a liquid fuel drawing-up member (15) made of a heat-resistant porous body (8) or heat-resistant inorganic fiber fabric (9) for drawing up the liquid fuel, and a heat generating member (6) including coating layers (22, 23) of heat-resistant metal, heat-resistant alloy or heat-resistant metallic oxide for giving heat to the drawing-up member. To prevent formation of tar-like substances, a catalyst is preferably deposited on the surface of the drawing-up member and/or on the surface of the heat generating member. Further preferably, the outer periphery of the heat generating member (6) is in contact with the drawing-up member (5). The apparatus assures stable combustion over a prolonged period of time and is useful as a heater, kitchen range or the like.

Apparatus for burning liquid fuel equipped with heating-type fuel

A catalyst for purifying an exhaust gas comprising a carrier substantially composed of calcium aluminate and titanium oxide. The carrier is deposited with a platinum group metal or a metal oxide capable of oxidizing reductive gases into innoxious ones. The titanium oxide is applied on the surface of the carrier or incorporated in the carrier. The carrier may further comprise a transition metal oxide showing catalytic activity. A method of making a catalyst is also disclosed in which titanium oxide is applied on the surface of a solid mass of calcium aluminate.
