The object of the present invention is to provide a carbonaceous material which is obtainable from plant-derived char and has a decreased specific surface area. The object can be solved by a carbonaceous material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary batteries characterized in that the carbonaceous material is obtained by heat-treating plant-derived char which is demineralized in gas-phase, and carbon precursor or volatile organic compound under a non-oxidizing gas atmosphere; and a specific surface area determined by a BET method is 10 m/g or less.

Carbon material for nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery and method for manufacturing same, and negative electrode using carbon material and nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery

An object of the present invention is to provide a carbonaceous material for a negative electrode for producing a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery capable of rapid charge and discharge and having excellent rate characteristics (output characteristics) while maintaining a large discharge capacity. The problem described above can be solved by a carbonaceous material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery negative electrode of the present invention obtained by heat-treating a non-graphitizable carbon precursor which is pulverized and contains from 13 to 80 wt. % of a volatile component. With the present invention, it is possible to provide a carbonaceous material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery negative electrode, whereby a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery having a large charge-discharge capacity and having excellent rate characteristics can be produced.

Provided is a less hygroscopic carbonaceous material that is obtained from a plant-derived carbonaceous raw material and that, when used as a negative electrode material for a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, allows the battery to exhibit good battery characteristics. This carbonaceous material is a particulate carbonaceous material containing carbonaceous particles. The carbonaceous material has a BET specific surface area of 1 m/g or more and less than 20 m/g. Each of the carbonaceous particles of the carbonaceous material has a core and a skin covering the core. The core contains a calcined product of a plant-derived carbonaceous raw material. The skin is made of a material that has higher electron emission ability upon irradiation with an electron beam than a material of the core.

The carbonaceous material for a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery anode of the present invention has a true density (&#x3c1;) determined by a pycnometer method using butanol of not less than 1.55 g/cmand less than 1.75 g/cmand a discharge capacity of an anode at 0.05 V to 1.5 V in terms of a lithium reference electrode standard of not less than 180 mAh/g. Furthermore, the slope 0.9/X (Vg/Ah) of a discharge curve calculated from a discharge capacity X (Ah/g) and a potential difference of 0.9 (V) corresponding to 0.2 V to 1.1 V in terms of a lithium reference electrode standard is not greater than 0.75 (Vg/Ah), and an absorbed moisture quantity after storage for 100 hours in a 25&#xb0; C. 50% RH air atmosphere is not greater than 1.5 wt %.

An object of the present invention is to provide a material for non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery negative electrodes containing a graphitic material and a non-graphitizable carbonaceous material, the material having excellent resistance against deterioration due to moisture absorption and excellent charge/discharge cycle resistance; a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery negative electrode using the same; and a non-aqueous electrolyte secondary battery using these, that has low resistance and excellent cycle durability. A porous membrane of vinylidene fluoride resin, having two major surfaces, including a dense layer which governs filtration performance on one major surface side and a sparse layer which contributes to reinforcement on the other opposite major surface side, and having an asymmetrical gradient network texture including pore sizes which increase continuously from the one major surface to the other opposite major surface, wherein the dense layer includes a 7 &#x3bc;m-thick portion contiguous to the one major surface showing a porosity Aof at least 50%, and the one major surface shows a pore size of at most 0.30 &#x3bc;m. The vinylidene-fluoride-resin porous membrane is useful as a porous membrane for separation and particularly exhibits good water-permeation-rate retentivity even in continuous filtration of cloudy water.

Vinylidene fluoride resin porous film and manufacturing method therefor

A porous membrane of vinylidene fluoride resin, including a 10 &#x3bc;m-thick portion contiguous to one surface thereof which comprises network resin fibers having an average diameter of at most 100 nm and shows a porosity A1 of at least 60% as measured by a focused ion beam-scanning electron microscope, and showing a surface pore size of at most 0.3 &#x3bc;m on said one surface thereof. The porous membrane has a treated water side surface layer showing a small surface pore size suitable for water filtration treatment and formed of extremely thin network resin fibers giving an extremely high porosity, thus showing an excellent minute particle-blocking performance and also extremely good anti-soiling resistance and regeneratability. The porous membrane is produced by a process including: melt-extrusion of a composition obtained by adding to vinylidene fluoride resin of a large molecular weight a relatively large amount of a polyester plasticizer which is mutually soluble with the resin and provides the resultant mixture with a crystallization temperature that is substantially identical to that of the vinylidene fluoride resin alone to form film, followed by cooling from one side of the film to solidify the film, extracting the plasticizer and stretching the membrane after the extraction while partially wetting a surface portion thereof.

The disclosed subject matter provides a composite semiconductor device which can include a common substrate, a first semiconductor light emitting structure, and a second semiconductor light emitting structure. A composition is formed by blending a vinylidene fluoride resin having a relatively high molecular weight and an improved crystallinity represented by a difference Tm&#x2212;Tc of at most 32&#xb0; C. between an inherent melting point Tmand a crystallization temperature Tc of the resin with a plasticizer and a good solvent for vinylidene fluoride resin, and the composition is melt-extruded into a hollow fiber-form. The hollow fiber-form extrudate is then cooled to be solidified from an outside thereof by introduction into cooling medium and subjected to extraction of the plasticizer and stretching, thereby forming a hollow fiber porous membrane of vinylidene fluoride resin characterized by co-presence of crystal oriented portion and crystal non-oriented portion recognizable by X-ray diffraction method. The resultant hollow fiber porous membrane of vinylidene fluoride resin has micro-pores of appropriate size and distribution, is excellent in mechanical strength represented by tensile strength and elongation at break and is useful as a water microfiltration membrane.

A semiconductor device manufacturing method can produce semiconductor light emitting/detecting devices that have high connective strength and high luminous energy by increasing contact areas of electrodes thereof and decreasing enclosed areas of electrodes thereof. A wafer is provided with a semiconductor substrate and a semiconductor epitaxial layer. A plurality of substrate concave portions and epitaxial layer concave portions are formed on the semiconductor substrate and the semiconductor epitaxial layer, respectively. Substrate electrodes and epitaxial layer electrodes are formed in the substrate concave portions and the epitaxial layer concave portions. A substrate surface electrode and an epitaxial layer surface electrode can be formed on the semiconductor substrate and the substrate electrodes and the semiconductor epitaxial layer and the epitaxial layer electrodes, respectively. The wafer can be diced at a location that includes both the substrate electrodes and the epitaxial layer electrodes, and can then be separated to provide the device(s).
