A vehicle control method and a vehicle control device are configured to control the movement of a vehicle based on operation of a terminal device located outside the vehicle. The vehicle receives from the terminal device a first signal indicating that a first button of the terminal device has been pressed. The vehicle doors are unlocked based on the reception of the first signal, and the vehicle is placed in a state in which movement control is permitted.

The method includes prohibiting the automatic locking/unlocking function from locking the door while the vehicle is executing autonomous travel control; detecting a distance between the vehicle and the remote operation device when the vehicle stops at the target stop; setting a temporal interval from when the vehicle stops until the locking/unlocking device for the door is locked using the automatic locking/unlocking function to a temporal interval in accordance with the distance; and locking the door using the automatic locking/unlocking function when the temporal interval has elapsed.

The parking assistance method inhibits the assistance image from being displayed on the unoccupied parking space on which the vehicle is determined to intrude in the peripheral image.

A parking assistance method of the present invention includes detecting an empty parking space around a moving object, displaying a first assistance image indicating a position of the empty parking space on a surrounding image viewed from above the moving object, and setting a parking target using the displayed first assistance image. The parking assistance method includes: determining whether the detected empty parking space meets a display condition for displaying the first assistance image; and displaying the first assistance image in the empty parking space not meeting the display condition when a currently set mode is an adjustable mode that allows an occupant of the moving object to manually adjust the parking target.
