A coated cemented carbide with an improved wear resistance without lowering the toughness as a tool is provided comprising a substrate of a cemented carbide, the surface of which is coated with a multilayer of TiC, TiN and TiCN by the PVD method, the innermost layer in contact with the substrate being a TiN layer with a thickness of 0.1 to 1 .mu.m.

Coated cemented carbides

A tool for warm and hot forgings is proposed which is made by bonding cemented carbide to steel by applying electron beams or laser to the joint. The cemented carbide includes a hard phase of tungsten carbide and a binder metal phase containing at least one of Ni, Co and Fe, and at least one of Cr, Mo and W, the latter forming a solid solution. A process for manufacturing such a tool is also proposed in which unfocussed high-energy beams are applied to each side of the joint and focussed beams are then applied to a point slightly away from the joint toward the cemented carbide.

Tool for warm and hot forgings and process for manufacturing the same

A super hard metal roll assembly and a process for producing it are disclosed. Initially, a powdered mix of super hard metal materials is moulded into a hollow cylindrical moulding. The moulding is then fitted about a super hard metal cylindrical element such as roll, cylinder, pillar or shaft, and sintered to contract to a bushing tightly engaging the outer periphery of the cylindrical element to produce a super hard metal roll assembly. The roll assembly may be further treated in a high temperature and high pressure inert gas in order to eliminate voids at the interface between the bushing and the cylindrical element.
