The present invention relates to a toner binder containing: a polyester resin (A); and a vinyl resin (B), wherein the polyester resin (A) has an acid value of 2 mg KOH/g or more, the vinyl resin (B) has a weight average molecular weight of 4,000 to 40,000, the vinyl resin (B) is a polymer essentially containing a monomer (m) whose homopolymer has an SP value of 11.5 to 16.5 as a constituent monomer, the weight percentage of the monomer (m) in monomers constituting the vinyl resin (B) is 1 wt % or more based on the total weight of the monomers constituting the vinyl resin (B), the polyester resin (A) and the vinyl resin (B) are present at a weight ratio (A)/(B) of 80/20 to 99.5/0.5, and when the vinyl resin (B) contains polyethylene units (C11) having a degree of polymerization of 70 to 210 and/or polypropylene units (C12) having a degree of polymerization of 70 to 210, the total weight percentage of the polyethylene units (C11) and the polypropylene units (C12) in the vinyl resin (B) is 9 wt % or less based on the weight of the vinyl resin (B).

An optical scanning unit irradiates a polygon mirror with a plurality of light beams emitted from a light source according to image data, and scans and exposes a plurality of photoreceptors with the plurality of light beams as scanning lights. The optical scanning unit comprises a primary optical system unit including an optical system that emits the plurality of light beams, which are emitted from the light source toward the polygon mirror, and a secondary optical system unit including an optical system that emits the light beams, which are reflected by the polygon mirror toward the photoreceptors. The arrangement is such that the primary optical system unit is fitted removably to the secondary optical system unit, and that a combined unit of the primary optical system unit and the secondary optical system unit is removably fitted to an image forming apparatus having the photoreceptors.

A laser scanning optical system converts a plurality of beams emitted from the laser diode (LD) into parallel light using a collimator lens, shapes the parallel light using an aperture, and executes exposure of a plurality of lines simultaneously on a photoreceptor drum. To cause a necessary emitting point interval d determined uniquely from the magnification of the optical system to coincide with an emitting point interval of the LD used, the LD is rotated by an angle &#x3b8; against the main optical axis plane thereof. In this case, a converting device that converts the aspect ratio of a profile of the light beam emitted from the LD is provided. According to the present invention, highly accurate adjustment of the angles and positions of optical elements constituting an optical scanning unit can be easily performed. For a cylindrical lens that makes the light beam for exposing a photoreceptor converge on the surface of the photoreceptor, a frame is provided for holding the cylindrical lens therein. The frame is supported by two support portions for a chassis of the optical scanning unit such that the longitudinal direction of the cylindrical lens becomes parallel to the scanning direction of the photoreceptor. The optical scanning unit is configured such that the angle of the cylindrical lens in the longitudinal direction is adjustable in the sub-scanning direction of the photoreceptor at the support portion on the front side (operational side) of these support portions.

According to the present invention, highly accurate adjustment of the angles and positions of optical elements constituting an optical scanning unit can be easily performed. The optical scanning unit comprises: a first mirror that reflects the light beams emitted from Y, C and M laser diodes; a second mirror that reflects the light beam emitted from a K laser diode and the light beams reflected by the first mirror; a cylindrical lens that acts on the light beams reflected by the second mirror; and a third mirror that reflects the light beams emitted from the cylindrical lens toward a polygon mirror. The second mirror is provided with an adjusting mechanism that can adjust the light beams in the main scanning direction, and the third mirror is provided with an adjusting mechanism that can adjust the light beams in the sub-scanning direction.

A document reading device includes a document transport and, for reading a document image, an optical reader having a movable exposure which stops at a predetermined reading position and emits light onto the document. A guide member guides the document to the reading position to form a predetermined inclination angle with respect to a flat-plate face of a support, which supports the document being transported when it passes over the reading position. A transport path is formed with the support so that the document passing over the reading position is transported along the flat-plate face. A detection member detects a leading end position of the guide member, the predetermined reading position being set to within a predetermined distance in a transport direction from the leading end of the guide member, which is known beforehand to be stain-free.

A connecting apparatus of the present invention includes a cable used for electrically connecting an apparatus main body section to a section rotatably supported by a hinge member with respect to said apparatus main body section, wherein the cable is provided in parallel to a rotation axis of the hinge member so as to be held by the apparatus main body section and the section, respectively, and the cable has a half-loop shape. Because the cable is provided in parallel to a rotation axis of the hinge member so as to be held by the apparatus main body section and the section, respectively, the torsional stress is dispersed in the half-loop of the cable when the cable is twisted by a rotation of the section rotatably supported. On this account, the stress is not concentrated, thereby reducing the stress applied to the cable, and improving a durability of the cable.
