According to one embodiment, a merchandise sales device includes a main body device and a support member. The main body device performs information processing for merchandise sales while accepting an operation from an operator. The support member can selectively form a first state where the main body device can be placed at a horizontal surface while a predetermined attitude of the main body device is maintained, and a second state where the main body device can be fixed to a vertical surface.

A cart includes a frame, a holding portion supported by the frame and in which a product is stored, a lifting unit configured to raise and lower the holding portion, an imaging device directed towards an inside of the holding portion, and a controller. The controller is configured to acquire an image of a product captured by the imaging device, determine whether the product has been continuously imaged by the imaging device over a predetermined time period, and upon determining that the product has been imaged over the predetermined time period, control the lifting unit to lower the holding portion.

A portable communication terminal requests merchandise information from a store management apparatus, by using store identity information about a store where a purchasing transaction is made, and merchandise information about merchandise to be purchased. The store management apparatus has a merchandise information storage configured to store merchandise information including a price of merchandise to be sold in each store. The store management apparatus receives a merchandise information request from a portable communication terminal, retrieves a merchandise information storage, detects merchandise information matching a retrieval condition, and sends the merchandise information to the request source, i.e., the portable communication terminal. The portable communication terminal displays merchandise information sent from the store management apparatus in a display.

A transmission line monitoring apparatus includes a first optical coupling unit, a first optical dividing unit, a second optical coupling unit, a second optical dividing unit and a monitoring unit. The first optical coupling unit couples a down data signal with a first wavelength and an examination signal with a second wavelength into a first coupled signal. The first optical dividing unit receives the first coupled signal and divides the first coupled signal into the down data signal with the first wavelength and the examination signal with the second wavelength. The second optical coupling unit couples an up data signal with the first wavelength and the examination signal from the first optical dividing unit into a second coupled signal. The second optical dividing unit receives the second coupled signal and divides the second coupled signal into the up data signal with the first wavelength and the examination signal with the second wavelength. The monitoring unit monitors a fault and a position of the fault.
