There is provided an ink jet recording medium capable of recording images excellent in color developability and light resistance. The ink jet recording medium has a base material and an ink receiving layer provided on the base material. The ink receiving layer contains a wet silica, a binder, an ultraviolet absorber represented by the following general formula (1) (wherein Rrepresents a hydrogen atom or a halogen atom; Rand Reach independently represent a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group, an alkyl group containing an ester group, or an alkylphenyl group), and a surfactant; in the ink receiving layer, the content of the ultraviolet absorber with respect to 100 parts by mass of the wet silica is 10 parts by mass or more and 20 parts by mass or less; and the surfactant is a polyoxyalkylene alkyl ether.

An ink let recording medium of this disclosure has a substrate and at least one or more ink receiving layers on the substrate, in which a first ink receiving layer which is the outermost surface layer contains anionic inorganic particles having an average particle diameter of 3.0 &#x3bc;m or more, a binder, a cationic polymer, and a polyvalent metal salt, the content of the polyvalent metal salt based on the anionic inorganic particles in the first ink receiving layer is 5 mass % or more and 40 mass % or less, the content ratio of the polyvalent metal salt to the cationic polymer in the first ink receiving layer (Content of polyvalent metal salt/Content of cationic polymer) is 1.0 or more and 8.0 or less, and the arithmetic average roughness Ra of the surface of the recording medium is 1.0 &#x3bc;m or more.

Ink jet recording medium having anionic inorganic particles

An inkjet recording medium including a substrate and an ink receiving layer on the substrate, wherein the ink receiving layer includes amorphous silica having an average secondary particle size of 3 &#x3bc;m or more, and a binder, the peak area ratio (C1s/Si2p) of a carbon atom (C1s) to a silicon atom (Si2p) in measurement of the surface of the ink receiving layer by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is 0.7 or more and 2.3 or less, and the contact angle between the surface of the ink receiving layer and pure water after a lapse of 10 ms from contact of the surface of the ink receiving layer with 4 &#x3bc;l of pure water is 60&#xb0; or less.

A recording medium including, in the following order, a base, an ink-receiving layer containing inorganic particles, and a protective layer. The protective layer contains colloidal silica, gas phase process silica, and at least one kind of particles selected from resin particles and wet process silica particles. The average particle size of the at least one kind of particles is 1.5 &#x3bc;m or more.

A recording medium includes a substrate, a first ink receiving layer and a second ink receiving layer in that order. The first ink receiving layer contains at least one inorganic pigment selected from the group consisting of alumina, hydrated alumina and fumed silica, polyvinyl alcohol, and a boric acid compound. The second ink receiving layer contains fumed silica, particles having an average particle size in a specific range, polyvinyl alcohol, and a boric acid compound. A recording medium including a first resin layer, a porous undercoating layer and a first ink-receiving layer provided in this order on one surface of a base and including a second resin layer and a second ink-receiving layer provided in this order on the other surface of the base, wherein 60&#xb0; specular glossinesses of a surface of the first resin layer closer to the first ink-receiving layer and a surface of the second resin layer closer to the second ink-receiving layer are each 65% or more, and the porous undercoating layer has a thickness of 3 &#x3bc;m or less.

Recording medium and process for producing the same

An aqueous ink comprising water, a water-soluble organic solvent and at least two pigments. The aqueous ink is used together with a reaction liquid containing a reactive component that reacts with the aqueous ink to cause aggregation or gelation of the aqueous ink. The at least two pigments have a difference in precipitation value to the reaction liquid of 0.2 or less.

Aqueous ink, ink jet recording method, ink cartridge and ink jet recording apparatus

A recording medium includes a substrate and ink receiving layers including a first ink receiving layer and a second ink receiving layer in that order. The first ink receiving layer contains first inorganic particles including alumina and silica particles, and a first binder. In the first ink receiving layer, the mass ratio of the first binder to the first inorganic particles is from 0.13 to 0.33, and the mass ratio of the alumina particles to the silica particles is from 0.43 to 2.33. The second ink receiving layer contains second inorganic particles and a second binder. The mass ratio of the second binder to the second inorganic particles is from 0.05 to 0.30. A recording medium includes a substrate and at least one ink-receiving layer, wherein an outermost ink-receiving layer of the recording medium contains inorganic particles, particles other than the inorganic particles, and a binder, the particles other than the inorganic particles have an average primary particle size of 30 nm or more and 100 nm or less, the outermost ink-receiving layer of the recording medium has a thickness of 5 &#x3bc;m or more, 60% or more and 90% or less of the particles other than the inorganic particles in the outermost ink-receiving layer of the recording medium are present in a region 500 nm or less below the outermost surface of the recording medium, and the area ratio of a region containing the particles other than the inorganic particles to the outermost surface of the recording medium is 30% or more and 80% or less.

The invention provides a recording medium having a substrate, a first ink receiving layer and a second ink receiving layer which is an outermost layer in this order, wherein the first ink receiving layer contains alumina hydrate and polyvinyl alcohol, the second ink receiving layer contains alumina hydrate, polyvinyl alcohol, a cationic polymer particle and a zirconium compound, and the thickness of the second ink receiving layer is 3 &#x3bc;m or more and 10 &#x3bc;m or less.

A method for producing a recording medium, including a step of coating one or more ink receiving layers provided on at least one surface of a substrate with an outermost layer coating liquid to form an outermost layer, where an ink receiving layer of the one or more ink receiving layers, which is nearest to the outermost layer contains alumina hydrate and a binder. The outermost layer coating liquid contains monodispersive and spherical cationic colloidal silica particles having an average particle size of 30 nm or more and 60 nm or less, polyvinyl alcohol having a saponification degree of 75% by mol or more and 85% by mol or less and a viscosity-average polymerization degree of 1,500 or more and 2,200 or less, and cationic polyurethane emulsion particles having an average particle size of 10 nm or more and 100 nm or less.

Recording medium and method for producing recording medium

A recording medium includes, in sequence, a support; a first ink-receiving layer including an inorganic particle, a water-soluble polymer having a hydroxyl group, a water-soluble polymer not having a hydroxyl group, and a boric acid compound; and a second ink-receiving layer including an inorganic particle, a water-soluble polymer having a hydroxyl group, and a boric acid compound.
