The power supply apparatus includes a transformer having a primary and secondary sides, a first line and a second line to which an AC voltage is input from an AC power supply, a rectifying and smoothing unit that rectifies and smoothes the AC voltage, a shut-off unit provided between the first line and the rectifying and smoothing unit, a switching element that switches a current from the rectifying and smoothing unit to the primary side of the transformer, a first overvoltage detection unit that outputs a voltage corresponding to the AC voltage, a second overvoltage detection unit that outputs an overvoltage detection signal; and a control unit that controls the shut-off unit to shut off the input of the AC voltage.

A paper money handling apparatus comprises a service mechanism unit for delivery of a paper sheet or sheets, a counting processing unit for counting of a paper sheet or sheets, a stacker for storing of a paper sheet or sheets, and conveyance paths for conveyance of a paper sheet or sheets to the service mechanism unit, the counting processing unit, and the stacker. The apparatus further comprises connection guides provided between the conveyance paths and the stackers to perform delivery of a paper sheet or sheets, a motor, a cam and a solenoid, which switch the connection guides to a connected state to connect the same to the conveyance paths and the stackers to enable delivery of a paper sheet or sheets and to an evacuated state to release the connection.

A paper sheet storing apparatus is configured to collect and accumulate multiple different types of paper sheets in different sizes. The paper sheet storing apparatus has: a paper sheet cartridge configured to have a feeder provided on a side wall thereof for externally feeding paper sheets and arranged to accumulate and keep the paper sheets therein; and a stack guide member configured to introduce the paper sheets, which are fed by the feeder into the paper sheet cartridge, downward in the paper sheet cartridge and to press down surface of an uppermost paper sheet located on a top of the paper sheets accumulated and kept in the paper sheet cartridge. The stack guide member is structured in a specific shape to enable the surface of the uppermost paper sheet to be pressed downward in a vertical direction, with regard to all the multiple different types of paper sheets. This arrangement effectively reduces the potential for paper jams and relevant troubles and ensures stable accumulation of paper sheets.

A damping brace having an axial force member for providing bearing forces against tensile or compressive forces, a constraining member for constraining the axial force member, and a stiffening part for supplementing the stiffness of the axial force member. An adhesion preventive coating is provided for preventing adhesion between the constraining member and the stiffening part. A length of the stiffening part extending along the axial direction and the gap between the stiffening part and the constraining member are defined in such a way as to prevent an end of the axial force member from rotating in the axial direction beyond a specific angle when the compressive force is applied to the force member.

When the toner accumulating in the upstream region of the nip region in the rotating direction of the photoconductor drum is to be discharged onto a non-image-forming region, the pre-charge exposure device is turned off so that the potential contrast decreases.

To provide a transferring apparatus, it is possible to perform switching between a high mode and a low mode in a transfer voltage generator circuit of a transferring apparatus by using a microcomputer. The high mode is a mode in which a positive transfer voltage generator circuit is operated independently, and a voltage generated by the positive transfer voltage generator circuit is output as a transfer voltage. The low mode is a mode in which the positive transfer voltage generator circuit and a negative transfer voltage generator circuit are both operated, and the voltages generated by each of the circuits are superimposed and output as the transfer voltage.

In a method of diagnosing the fatigue life of structural steelwork according to the present invention, a Barkhausen noise measurement is performed under the condition of 5 .mu.m.ltoreq.d.ltoreq.1 mm where d is the detection depth of Barkhausen noise, by using a magnetic head constituted by an air-core coil detection head and a magnetic excitation head obtained by winding a copper wire such as an enameled wire on a U-shaped core made of a soft magnetic material such as a silicon steel sheet or an amorphous magnetic material. The degree of fatigue damage of a target measurement portion is diagnosed using the root-mean-square (RMS) voltage or voltage amplitude value of the Barkhausen noise. According to this method, the degree of fatigue and degradation by stress and strain in the structural steelwork can be accurately diagnosed prior to development of cracking without any limitation on diagnostic locations. A member of steelwork having a life diagnostic function is obtained by mounting the above magnetic head on a brace- or wall-like vibration-damping device made of very low-yield steel. According to this member of steelwork, the wall or covering material of a bridge or the like need not be removed even in practicing a fatigue life diagnosis. The degree of fatigue degradation in structural steelwork can be easily and accurately diagnosed prior to development of cracking even in a location where an operator cannot access due to the structural limitation.
