Provided is a display that causes an electric field generated in a transverse or diagonal direction to drive liquid crystals and enables allocation of a contact area for a conducting connection. A transparent electrode layer is formed on a surface of a counter substrate that is opposite to a surface of the counter substrate on which the liquid crystals are disposed. The counter substrate is included in a liquid-crystal display panel. An electrode layer is formed on the rear surface of a protective plate disposed to face the counter electrode. Conductive substances are disposed between the transparent electrode layer and the electrode layer to connect the transparent electrode layer to the electrode layer. A GND connecting part provided in a surrounding area of the protective plate connects the electrode layer formed on the protective plate to, for example, a casing, thus connecting the electrode layer to the GND.

A liquid crystal display device includes an alignment layer having an alignment direction inclined at an angle &#x3b1; where 0&#xb0;&#x3c;&#x3b1;&#x3c;90&#xb0; with respect to an extending direction of a gate line, a pixel electrode, and a common electrode placed opposite to the pixel electrode with an insulating layer interposed therebetween. One of the pixel electrode and the common electrode has a slit for generating a fringe electric field to liquid crystals with the other of the pixel electrode and the common electrode. The slit includes a first slit lying in the alignment direction or a direction perpendicular to the alignment direction, and a plurality of second slits and a plurality of third slits respectively inclined at an angle &#xb1;&#x3b8; with respect to the first slit.

A transflective liquid crystal display device provided with columnar spacers is provided that can suppress variation in color tone of white in a reflective mode and can minimize degradation in reflectivity even when a coloring material used for a transmissive region and a coloring material used for a reflective region are the same. The device includes a color filter substrate, a TFT substrate, a liquid crystal material sandwiched by the color filter substrate and the TFT substrate, columnar spacers formed only in pixels having a green coloring material and defining a cell gap, and light-blocking portions provided only in predetermined regions in the vicinity of locations where the columnar spacers are formed.

Transflective liquid crystal display device with columnar spacers

A liquid crystal display device has the first substrate and the second substrate. The first substrate includes a gate line, a source line crossing the gate line, a switching element connected to the source line, a liquid crystal drive electrode connected to the switching element and having a plurality of electrodes substantially parallel to each other, and a common electrode consisting of a plurality of comb-shaped electrodes arranged substantially parallel to and alternately with the liquid crystal drive electrode. The second substrate includes color filters arranged in an array arrangement and a black matrix provided between the color filters. A spacer between the substrates contacts the first substrate in the area where the gate line, the liquid crystal drive electrode, and the common electrode are arranged in the vicinity of each other.

Liquid crystal display device

The invention provides a small-sized liquid crystal display in which a frame region of an outer peripheral portion of a display region is made small without any light leak at peripheral portion of the display region of a liquid crystal display panel. The invention also provides a manufacturing process of such a liquid crystal display. Periphery shading films (shade filmsand) of a display region of a liquid crystal display panel are alternately formed on a first substrate(shade film) and a second substrate(shade film) oppositely arranged, and a transparent portion (width Q) for irradiating a seal resinused to adhere the two substrates forming the liquid crystal display panel with ultraviolet raysis provided within a region (width P) where the periphery shading films are formed.

Liquid crystal display and manufacturing process thereof

In a liquid crystal displaying device where the aperture ratio is made higher by using a photocuring adhesive sealant for adhering two substrates, and the contraction of tact time is achieved, a liquid crystal displaying device which is free from inferior curing of the adhesive sealant and is high in reliability can be obtained. In two substrates for forming a liquid crystal displaying device, where the substrates have at least one layer of light shielding film, the inferior curing of the photocuring adhesive sealant can be removed by limiting the width of the light shielding film existing above or under the adhesive sealant which glues the two substrates. As this result, a liquid crystal displaying device which is high in aperture ratio and high in reliability can be obtained.

The present invention discloses a liquid crystal display apparatus including (1) a liquid crystal panel including an electrodes substrate provided with pixel electrodes and counter electrodes, a counter substrate which opposes the electrodes substrate, and a liquid crystal layer containing therein liquid crystal molecules which are driven by an electric field that is generated in a substantially parallel manner with respect to a surface of the electrodes substrate when voltage is applied on the pixel electrodes and counter electrodes; and (2) a driving circuit for supplying predetermined electric signals to the pixel electrodes and the counter electrodes, wherein inclining directions of liquid crystal molecules which are closest to the electrodes substrate and those of liquid crystal molecules which are closest to the counter substrate are identical, and aligning directions of liquid crystal molecules which are closest to the electrodes substrate and those of liquid crystal molecules which are closest to the counter substrate are parallel to each other.

Liquid crystal display apparatus with reduced visual angle degradation

A liquid crystal display device having high contrast ratio and high display quality which does not give any impression of roughness on display plane is provided. An amount of charges on the surface of spacers is made zero or almost zero, whereby brightness of a region where spacers are arranged is adjusted to be at most twice the brightness of that region where the spacers are not arranged in a black (dark) display state, with the spacers distribution density being 100 to 600 particles/mm and the spacers diameter being 2 to 6 &mgr;m. For this purpose, as the spacers for keeping constant a space between an electrode substrate and a counter substrate, those formed by an acrylate resin with its surface plated with gold and having surface specific resistance of 5 &OHgr;&middot;m and diameter of 6 &mgr;m are used. Further, the spacers may be distributed by using a spacer distributing apparatus having a spacer carrier pipe system formed of the same material as the surface material of the spacers.

Liquid crystal display device with electrically discharged spacers

A method of manufacturing an in-plane switching liquid crystal display apparatus which includes forming on a TFT array substrate, a plurality of scanning signal lines, a plurality of image signal lines each crossing the scanning signal lines, thin film transistors at each intersection of the scanning signal lines and image signal lines, liquid crystal driving electrodes opposing the liquid crystal driving electrodes, and common signal lines connected to the common electrodes. Further, the method includes opposing a counter substrate to the TFT array substrate, interposing a plurality of spacers in a gap between the TFT array substrate and the counter substrate, and interposing a sealing agent in the gap between the TFT array substrate and the counter substrate so as to adhere the TFT array substrate and the counter substrate at peripheral portions thereof. In addition, a liquid crystal layer is pinched and held between the array substrate and the counter substrate and which presents birefringence effects, and a manufactured in-plane switching liquid crystal display apparatus with a difference in transmittance of more than 5% for green light of approximately 544 nm wavelength in a displaying area of the in-plane switching liquid crystal display apparatus is rejected.

A liquid crystal display apparatus of the present invention includes an array substrate, a counter substrate, and liquid crystal that is interposed and held by a space formed by maintaining the array substrate and the counter substrate at a specified interval in a parallel manner, the liquid crystal display apparatus being of in-plane switching in which voltage is impressed on a pair of electrodes disposed on the array substrate to generate an electric field substantially parallel with respect to the array substrate surface and in which liquid crystal is driven through in-plane switching of liquid crystal molecules, wherein the array substrate is formed with a conductive film layer on a surface opposite to the surface on which the pair of electrodes are disposed. Providing a liquid crystal display apparatus with no electric charged being stored on the substrate surface thereof and no afterimages appear.
