A key entry system having redundant communication between the IC card and the vehicle controller to ensure continuous operation. The ID card and the vehicle controller each includes a memory for storing an ID code, an electromagnetic induction power supply/transmission circuit for transmitting and receiving the ID code and an RF modem also for transmitting and receiving the ID codes. Thus, in the event that communication cannot be made between the RF modems, the key entry system will still function by communication between the electromagnetic induction power supply/transmission circuits.

A circuit breaking control unit receives an impact detection signal that is outputted from outside when an impact such as a crash of a motor vehicle has been detected, and generates and applies a circuit breaking control signal based on the impact detection signal. A circuit breaking unit forcibly interrupts a power supply path and stops the supply of power to a load. Therefore, the supply of power can be stopped immediately at the time the impact has been detected. In addition, a second load is a minimum electric system that is essential to cause the motor vehicle to travel. Therefore, even if the supply of power to the load is interrupted, the motor vehicle can be caused to travel. Hence, even at the time of an accident or the like, the motor vehicle can be moved to the edge of a road or the like with ease.

A multi-function switch includes a casing, a key top member, two magnets, two magnetic detectors and a micro-computer. The key top member is mounted on the casing to permit both liner movement and rotational movement in a plane parallel with a bottom face of the casing. The two magnets are arranged on the key top member to be apart from each other at a predetermined distance. The two magnetic detectors are arranged on the casing to face the magnets' respectively, at respective neutral positions in the liner movement and rotational movement. The micro-computer detects a ratio of respective voltages generated from the magnetic detectors and further processes the obtained ratio as a desired operational signal.

Multi-function switch

A magnetic element switch is provided which can reduce the number of parts and the cost of the switch as well as improve the reliability thereof. The magnetic element switch includes an operation part oscillatable about a neutral position when operated by an operator, a magnet oscillatable about a neutral position directly or indirectly due to the oscillation of the operation part, and a magnetic element fixedly disposed adjacent to the magnet for generating an electromotive voltage proportional to the density of a magnetic flux incident thereon. The magnetic element is positioned such that a magnetic force line generated by the magnet at the neutral position is allowed to pass through the magnetic element parallel to an electric field formed with the magnetic element and also such that, when the magnet is oscillated, the magnetic force line is allowed to pass therethrough not parallel to the electric field within the magnetic element. The magnetic element switch is operated based on an electromotive voltage having a plurality of values generated by the magnetic element at a plurality of predetermined oscillation positions of the magnet.

This invention relates to an indicating instrument for a vehicle or the like in which a pointer-indicated driving condition such as vehicle speed and rotation speed of an engine is formed by light, and to an indicating instrument system having the above indicating instruments. The structure of the indicating instrument is that a front surface having graduations is spherical such that the front surface sticks out forwardly as it is far from the rotation shaft and a light source is disposed in front of the dial and out of the graduations. Further, the indicating instrument system of the present invention indicates a cylindrical lens for converting beam from a point light source to a substantially linear beam; first and second reflecting plates for dividing the substantially linear beam into divided beam; and third and fourth reflecting plates for reflecting the divided beams each to a dial as a pointer indicating the graduations on the dial to a plurality of pointer forming portions.

An automotive display system for a vehicle comprises a display having a display screen, a reflecting mirror disposed with its reflecting surface facing the display screen of the display, and a prism disposed between the display and the reflecting mirror. Light rays emanated from the display enter the prism through a first surface of the prism, are transmitted through the prism and fall on the reflecting surface of the reflecting mirror and are reflected by the reflecting mirror. The light rays reflected by the reflecting mirror travel along a path coinciding with or nearly coinciding with the path of travel of the light rays incident on the reflecting surface of the reflecting mirror and are reflected again by the second surface of the prism toward the driver's eye. The light rays travel from the second surface of the prism to and from the reflecting mirror through a comparatively long optical path in a relatively small space for effective remote displaying. Thus, the automotive display system can be formed in a compact construction.

To facilitate wire connection work of electric elements disposed in an automotive vehicle door so that the door assembly wiring can be automated, a wire harness is provided which comprises a plurality of parallel-arranged trunk conductors; a plurality of sets of parallel-arranged branch conductors; and in particular a plurality of connector terminals provided at one of each of the branch conductors in such a way as to be each directly connectable to each of the electric elements. The connector terminals are male or female terminals provided so as to project outward and inward from the wire harness surface passing through openings formed in an outer door frame, a trim panel or a decorative panel.

To effectively form a branch harness from a trunk harness, the wire harness comprises an insulating sheet, a plurality of horizontal harness conductors arranged in parallel to each other on the insulating sheet, and a plurality of second harness conductors also arranged in parallel to each other and perpendicular to said first harness conductors on the insulating sheet. The first and second harness conductors are selectively connected to each other through holes formed in another insulating sheet with soldering, welding, rivets or grommets or by cutting off harness conductor ends along a line inclined at 45 degrees with respect to the harness conductor. Further, it is preferable to directly form male or female connector terminals at each end of the harness conductors.
