Provided is an active matrix substrate that includes a thin film transistor that has a first semiconductor layer and an ESD protection circuit. The ESD protection circuit includes a diode element. The diode element has a first electrode in a gate metal layer, a second semiconductor layer that overlaps a first electrode, and a second electrode and a third electrode electrically connected to a second semiconductor layer in a source metal layer. First and second electrodes of the diode element are electrically connected. The ESD protection circuit further includes a reserve diode structure. The reserve diode structure includes a fourth electrode in the gate metal layer and is in an electrically floating state, and a third semiconductor layer that is formed in the same layer as the first and second semiconductor layers and overlaps the fourth electrode with an insulation layer in between.

A touch panel display device is provided with an active matrix substrate having multiple pixels corresponding to N-number colors (N is an odd number of three or more). The active matrix substrate includes multiple source lines, multiple common electrodes, and multiple signal lines connected to the respective common electrodes. There are provided connecting wires whose reliability may be ensured by preventing leakage between the connecting wires and by preventing entry of moisture. Overexposure is performed by using a mask having a shape of a protruding pattern () with a sharp tip end at a position corresponding to a pattern edge of an organic insulating film () between adjacent connecting wires (). Inclination of an inclined surface of the organic insulating film () sandwiched by the connecting wires () is thereby made gradual, and thus, at the time of forming the connecting wires (), a film thickness of a resist may be prevented from becoming thick along an edge line of the organic insulating film (). As a result, the resist is prevented from remaining in a connected manner at a region sandwiched by the adjacent connecting wires (), and leakage between the adjacent connecting wires () may be prevented.

Inside of a region for inspection set outside a display region of an active matrix substrate, lead-out lines (to) connected to data lines pass through in a column direction, and a control line for inspection () and six signal lines for inspection (to) extend in a row direction. TFTs for inspection (to) control a conduction state between the lead-out line and the corresponding signal line for inspection in accordance with a signal on the control line for inspection. Inside the region for inspection, three of the six signal lines for inspection are arranged on one side of the control line for inspection, and the remaining three are arranged on other side of the control line for inspection. One of the two adjacent lead-out lines is connected to one of the former signal lines for inspection via the TFT for inspection (), and the other is connected to one of the latter signal lines for inspection via the TFT for inspection (). This suppresses a disconnection, a leakage current, and a luminance unevenness of a screen for inspection.
