A novel silicon compound capable of initiating radical polymerization is provided. The silicon compound is represented by the following general formula (1)A-Z&#x2014;S&#x2014;Z&#x2014;Si(OR)(R)&#x2003;&#x2003;(1)wherein A is a group capable of initiating radical polymerization, Zand Zare each independently a bivalent group that has at least a carbon atom, Rand Rare each independently an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, and n is an integer of 1 to 3. A radical polymerization initiator comprising the silicon compound, and a polymer obtained by radical polymerization of a monomer with the radical polymerization initiator are also provided. Also provided is a complex having a polymer graft chain formed on a solid substance surface with the use of the silicon compound.

Silicon compound and method for producing same, and use thereof

An alkoxysilyl group-containing azo compound represented by the following formula (1), a method for easily obtaining the alkoxysilyl group-containing azo compound, and a rubber composition having improved heat build-up characteristic and the like obtained using the azo compound are provided. The alkoxysilyl group-containing azo compound is preferably obtained by reacting a compound represented by the following formula (2) and a compound represented by the following formula (3):  HS&#x2014;(CH)&#x2014;Si(OR)(R)&#x2003;&#x2003;(3) wherein Rand Rrepresent an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, Rand Rrepresent an alkylene group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, R, R, Rand Rrepresent hydrogen or an alkyl group having from 1 to 3 carbon atoms, n is an integer of from 1 to 3, and m is an integer of from 1 to 5.
