A wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member with a body mounting flange and double row outer raceway surfaces, an inner member with double row inner raceway surfaces opposing the double row outer raceway surfaces, and double row rolling elements contained between the inner raceway surfaces and the outer raceway surfaces, respectively, of the inner member and the outer member. A plurality of bolt insertion holes formed in the outer member body mounting flange. An abutment surface, to abut against the body-side member, is formed around each bolt insertion hole as a surface projecting from the inner-side surface of the body mounting flange with a step height. A relative difference between the step heights of the abutment surfaces is limited to a minimum.

Wheel bearing apparatus and its mounting structure

A wheel bearing apparatus has a protecting cover formed from non-magnetic steel sheet with a cup-shaped configuration. The protective cover has a cylindrical fitting portion, a disk-shaped shield portion, a radially reducing portion, a stepped portion and a bottom portion. The cylindrical fitting portion is press-fit into the inner circumference of the inner-side end of the outer member. The disk-shaped shielding portion extends radially inward from the fitting portion, via the radially reducing portion. The inner-side surface of the shielding portion is arranged close to or in contact with a rotation speed detecting sensor. The bottom portion is continuous with the shielding portion, via the stepped portion to close the inner-side end of the inner member. A full deflection of the side surface of the shielding portion that is caused by a load the same as that applied to the protecting cover when it is press-fit into the outer member is limited to a predetermined value or less.

A wheel bearing apparatus incorporating a rotation speed detecting apparatus has an outer member, an inner member, double row rolling elements, a pulser ring, a cup-shaped sensor cap and a rotation speed sensor. The sensor cap is press-formed from anti-corrosion steel sheet into a cup-shaped configuration with a cylindrical fitting portion, to be press-fit into the end of the outer member, and a bottom portion, extending radially inward from the fitting portion to cover the inner-side end of the inner member. The rotation speed sensor is oppositely arranged so that it abuts or is positioned in close proximity to the bottom portion and accordingly the pulser ring. The rotation speed sensor and pulser ring oppose one another a predetermined axial air gap via the bottom portion. An elastic member is pressed and elastically deformed between the fitting portion of the sensor cap and the end of the outer member.

Wheel bearing apparatus incorporated with a rotation speed detecting apparatus

A wheel bearing apparatus incorporating a rotational speed detecting apparatus has a protecting cover. A cylindrical fitting portion of the cover is press-fit into the end inner circumference of the outer member. A donut-shaped shielding portion extends radially inward from the fitting portion, via a radially reducing portion. A bottom portion is continuous with the shielding portion, via a stepped portion, to close the inner-side end of the inner member. A sealing member is integrally adhered to the outer circumference of the radially reducing portion. The sealing member and annular portion has a diameter slightly smaller than the outer diameter of the fitting portion of the protecting cover. The sealing member projected portion has a diameter slightly larger than the outer diameter of the fitting portion of the protecting cover. The projected portion is press-fit into the end inner circumference of the outer member via a predetermined interference.

Wheel bearing apparatus incorporated with a rotational speed detecting apparatus

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member, an inner member, double row rolling elements freely rollably contained between outer and inner raceway surfaces of the outer and inner members, and seals mounted within annular openings formed between the outer and the inner members. A backup seal is arranged radially outward of an outer side seal of the seals. The backup seal has a sealing lip inclined radially outward toward the outer side. The sealing lip slidingly contacts an annular metal member that is pressed from a steel sheet having preservation properties. The annular metal member is bolted on a side face of the wheel mounting flange of the inner side.

Wheel bearing apparatus for a vehicle

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member (), an inner member (), an inner ring (), and double row rolling elements () are freely rollably retained between double row outer raceway surfaces () and double row inner raceway surfaces (). A ratio (&#x3b1;) of the thickness (e), of an end () at the outboard side of the inner ring () to abut the stepped portion (), relative to the inner diameter (d) of the inner ring () is limited at or smaller than a predetermined value.

Bearing apparatus for a wheel of vehicle

A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus which limits hoop stress generated in the inner ring during caulking, to below a predetermined level, can improve durability and reliability of the inner ring. Radial expansion of the outer circumferential surface of the inner ring, before and after said plastic deformation, is measured so that the amount of radial expansion of the inner ring is controlled based on a predetermined relationship between the hoop stress and the amount of radial expansion of the inner ring. The hoop stress in the inner member is limited below a predetermined level. Thus, it is possible to easily and exactly control the hoop stress in the inner ring caulked onto the hub. This prevents the generation of cracking or delayed fracture of the inner ring, to provide a bearing apparatus with an inner ring with superior durability and reliability.
