A single-tube type projection display with high light efficiency includes phosphors of three primary colors formed on upper, middle and lower portions of a faceplate of a CRT. Images of three colors are projected on the phosphor layers, and a color picture is obtained by overlapping the three color images on the screen by the projection lenses.

A cathode-ray tube having a face plate which includes a phosphor layer provided at the inner surface side of a glass plate and an optical interference filter provided between the phosphor layer and the inner surface of the plate. The optical interference filter is constituted by high- and low-refractive index layers. The outermost layer of the optical interference filter in contact with the phosphor layer is an Al.sub.2 O.sub.3 layer or a ZrO.sub.2 layer having a physical thickness of 10 nm or more. The high-refractive index layer of the optical interference filter preferably consists of TiO.sub.2, and its low-refractive index layer preferably consists of Al.sub.2 O.sub.3.

A method for making a cathode ray tube involves the step of positioning a non-reflective transparent plate in front of a face plate of a tube body with a given space therebetween; a step of filling the space with a resin composition and a step of heating the resin composition filled in the space to harden the composition to bond the tube body and the non-reflective transparent plate to each other. The resin composition is an unsaturated polyester resin composition which comprises an unsaturated polyester having a molecular weight per one unsaturated group of 1000 to 8000 and (1) a polymerizable monomer, a low-temperature hardener and a high-temperature hardener or (2) styrene and/or a derivative thereof and an unsaturated compound having a refractive index of 1.5 or less. This composition can be molded in a short time and forms no strain on hardening and serves as an adhesive for production of the cathode ray tube.

Method for making a cathode ray tube

This invention relates to a phosphor prepared by mixing a green emitting phosphor InBO.sub.3 :Tb having an excellent color tone with other green emitting phosphors having a short decay time such as Y.sub.3 Al.sub.5-m Ga.sub.m O.sub.12 :Tb in amounts such that the 'decay time to 10% of peak brightness' measured by a raster spot method is below 10 ms. The phosphor screen of a projection cathode-ray tube is formed by use of this phosphor. The projection cathode-ray tube thus produced has an excellent color tone and a short decay time.

Disclosed is an unsaturated polyester resin composition which comprises an unsaturated polyester having a molecular weight per one unsaturated group of 1000 to 8000 and (1) a polymerizable monomer, a low-temperature hardener and a high-temperature hardener or (2) styrene and/or a derivative thereof and an unsaturated compound having a refractive index of 1.5 or less. The projection type display system thus obtained is capable of displaying color pictures with a high color purity and a high saturation.

A cubic ZnS:Cu,Al phosphor and a cubic ZnS:Au,Al phosphor is mixed to provide a green emitting phosphor coposition. This composition emits green light having a color which is represented by a color point in the CIE standard chromaticity diagram having x-value and y-value within the ranges of 0.300&lt;x&lt;0.360 and 0.575&lt;y&lt;0.635, respectively, when excited by an electron beam. A color television cathode ray tube uses the fluorescent composition as a green emitting phosphor component, and a ZnS:Ag phosphor or a ZnS:Ag,Al phosphor as a blue emitting phosphor component, and a Y.sub.2 O.sub.2 S:Eu phosphor, a Y.sub.2 O.sub.3 :Eu phosphor or a YVO.sub.4 :Eu phosphor as a red emitting phosphor component.

In a process for the production of color television picture tubes which comprises at least the step of forming a phosphor layer on the inner surface of a panel, the step of coating said inner surface of the panel including said phosphor layer with an aqueous emulsion of a water-insoluble film-forming resin to form a volatilizable substrate layer, the step of forming a metal film on the substrate layer and the step of volatilizing the organic substances, a color television picture tube in which the blister or separation of the metal film can be prevented in said volatilization step and the undecomposed resin does not remain and which has an improved brightness can be produced by forming said substrate layer from at least two layers each of an emulsion, adding colloidal silica, an aqueous ammonium oxalate solution and aqueous hydrogen peroxide to the first layer emulsion, and adding polyvinyl alcohol-boric acid complex and a small amount of ammonium hydroxide to the emulsion of the layer contacting directly with said metal film.
