An image forming apparatus with a binding function wherein small bands of toner are deposited on paper sheets, a plurality of said sheets are then stacked and thereafter said small bands of deposited toner are fused, thereby binding said sheets. In order to form said small bands of toner on an electrostatic latent image carrier, the present invention is provided with a charger disposed between an exposure position and the developing position so as to be movable perpendicularly to the paper transport direction, an optical shutter disposed in the image exposure optical path and selectably operable, or a scale disposed at one side of a platen glass for preventing light from reaching the image carrier. Said small band of toner formed on the image carrier may be developed by a special toner such as waste toner removed from the surface of the image carrier after being supplied to copy the original document image, white toner, color toner, or highly self-adhesive toner. The apparatus may further comprises controller for controlling the apparatus so as not to form the binding toner on a suitable cover sheet of the sheet stack. The width of the binding toner deposited on the sheet may be controlled so as to be variable by changing the timing for transporting sheets toward a transfer station.

Image forming apparatus with a binding function

An electrostatic copying apparatus has a device for nipping a leading end of a strip of paper as paid off from a roll and for feeding the paper during the copying operation. A driving motor is provided for operating the apparatus, and the device includes a pair of feed rollers movable out of contact with one another, and a mechanism is provided for effecting such movement. A mechanism is also provided for actuating the moving mechanism, and the feed rollers, the driving motor and the actuating mechanism are so controlled as to maintain the rollers in contact with one another during the copying operation. The actuating mechanism is arranged for effecting movement of the rollers out of contact with one another during inoperation of the driving motor.

A device for cutting a paper web includes a rotary blade assembly, a stationary or non-rotatable blade in cutting engagement with the rotary blade assembly and being retractable from the rotary blade assembly during the cutting engagement therewith, guide members supporting the non-rotatable blade for sliding movement in the direction of the retraction, and the non-rotatable blade being biased into cutting engagement with the rotary blade assembly.

Full rotation-type paper web cutting device

A pressure fixing apparatus in which copying paper with unfixed toner images formed on one surface is passed between a pair of press rollers in pressing contact with each other to fix the toner images to the copying paper with the pressure of the rollers. At least one of the rollers which comes into contact with the toner images on the copying paper has a roughened surface formed of minute round-edged projections.

The electrophotographic copying machine of the present disclosure includes a slit mechanism having two different forms of slits, an optical device to project the image of the original to be copied onto a photoreceptor surface a shifting mechanism for shifting the optical device between a first position suitable for performing an equal size copying operation and a second position suitable for performing a different size copying operation, such as a reduced size copying operation. During the equal size copying operation, the slit mechanism provides a slit having a large size, while during the other size copying operation, for example, a reduced size copying operation, the slit mechanism provides a slit having a different size, for example a small size, so as to maintain the distribution of the amount of exposure on the photoreceptor surface in a predetermined distribution regardless of the type of copying operation.

A transfer material or copy paper separating device for use in an electrophotographic copying apparatus which includes a driving mechanism for the transfer material, separating claws adapted to pivotally contact or be spaced away from a photoreceptor surface in timed relation to the movement of the copy paper. Each of the separating claws is formed from a flexible elastic film of polyester or the like and has very short fibers, for example, of nylon, on at least front edge portion thereof, contacting the photoreceptor surface for reducing damage to the photoreceptor surface.
