The present invention provides a sheet conveying roller which requires a smaller number of ingredients than a prior art sheet conveying roller, has an excellent weather resistance, is less liable to suffer from reduction in friction coefficient attributable to accumulation of paper dust and sheet conveying failure attributable to the reduction in friction coefficient, and ensures proper sheet conveyance for a longer period of time. The invention further provides a rubber composition for the sheet conveying roller. The rubber composition comprises an ethylene-propylene-diene rubber and an epoxylated natural rubber as a rubber component. In the rubber composition, the epoxylated natural rubber is present in a proportion of 10 mass % to 90 mass % based on the overall amount of the rubber component including the two rubbers. The sheet conveying roller includes a roller body formed from the rubber composition.

A paper-feeding roller including a rubber composition containing short fibers in which the short fibers has an average fiber diameter not less than 10 &#x3bc;m nor more than 100 &#x3bc;m and an average fiber length not less than 0.01 mm nor more than 4 mm. At least one part of all of the short fibers is radially oriented at an angle not less than 10 degrees nor more than 90 degrees with respect to a plane which contacts a surface of the paper-feeding roller, with one end of each of the radially oriented short fibers disposed exposably on the surface of the paper-feeding roller.

Paper-feeding roller

A paper-feeding roller () including a core () and a rubber roll () mounted on a peripheral surface of the core (). The rubber roll () has a three-layer construction composed of an inner layer (), an intermediate layer (), and an outer layer (). The inner layer (), the intermediate layer (), and the outer layer () are a non-foamed layer respectively. The JIS-A hardness of the inner layer () is set to not more than 10 degrees. The JIS-A hardness of the outer layer () is set to a range of 25 to 60 degrees.

EPDM can be used as the rubber and/or the thermoplastic elastomer, carbon black as the reinforcing filler, and an organic peroxide as a crosslinking agent. The Trelaxation time (spin-spin relaxation) of the bound rubber formed between the rubber and/or thermoplastic elastomer and the reinforcing filler is more than a Trelaxation time of a bound rubber of the rubber and/or thermoplastic elastomer to which the reinforcing filler is not added by not less than 150% nor more than 300%.
