In one embodiment, a stylus receives a first signal from a first electrode of the stylus, the stylus being operable to communicate wirelessly with a device through a touch sensor of the device; receives a second signal from a second electrode of the stylus, the second signal being a reference signal and the second electrode being a reference electrode; and compares the first signal with the second signal.

Differential sensing in an active stylus

In certain embodiments, a stylus includes one or more electrodes and one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic for transmitting signals wirelessly to a device through a touch sensor of the device. At least some of the signals are high-voltage signals generated by a relatively large potential difference compared to a voltage within a voltage range of approximately 1 to approximately 3 volts. The stylus includes a stylus tip, and one or more of the one or more electrodes are disposed at the stylus tip.

Active stylus with high voltage

In one embodiment, an apparatus comprises a sense unit and a drive unit. The sense unit is operable to sense a first signal from drive lines of a touch sensor. The touch sensor comprises the drive lines and sense lines arranged relative to the drive lines such that intersections of the drive lines and the sense lines form one or more capacitive nodes. The drive unit is operable to transmit a second signal based on the first signal to the sense lines such that transmission of the second signal changes the perceived capacitance of the one or more capacitive nodes.

Modulating drive signal for communication between active stylus and touch-sensor device

In one embodiment, a method includes in an inductive-sensing mode, by a controller, applying an alternating-current (AC) signal on a first electrode of a capacitive touch sensor. The capacitive touch sensor is configured to operate in the inductive-sensing mode and a capacitive-sensing mode. The method also includes sensing a signal indicative of a magnetic field on the first electrode. The signal is due at least in part to a magnetic field generated by the object and the magnetic field is generated at least in part in response to the AC signal applied on the first electrode. The method also includes determining a position of the object generating the magnetic field based on the signal indicative of the magnetic field.

Capacitive and inductive sensing

System and method for substantially reducing an involvement of an applications processor in receiving data from a touchscreen display. In one aspect, the system includes a controller may be configured in an autonomous mode where it automatically measures the touchscreen display based configuration information received from the applications processor, determines notable events based on the measurement data, stores data and event identifiers related to the notable events in a memory, and sends a notification to the applications processor when event data is available In another aspect, the system includes a controller that filters user interactions events and transmits data related to only notable events to the applications processor. Because of the autonomous and event filtering operations of the touchscreen controller, there are substantially less communications between the controller and the applications processor. This improves the speed and efficiency of the applications processor.

System and method for interfacing applications processor to touchscreen display for reduced data transfer

In one embodiment, a stylus has one or more electrodes and one or more computer-readable non-transitory storage media embodying logic for transmitting signals wirelessly to a device through a touch sensor of the device. At least some of the signals comprise substantially high voltage. The stylus has one or more electrodes in or on a tip of the stylus which transmit the high-voltage signals to the device.
