A filter element includes a media pack and a support body. The media pack may be arranged in an enclosed shape defining a central cavity. The media pack includes a formed filter media and an abrasion resistant barrier coupled to the formed filter media. The support body is disposed within the central cavity. The abrasion resistant barrier separates the media pack from the support body. In some instances, the media pack also includes a plurality of adhesive beads disposed between the abrasion resistant barrier and the formed filter media and coupling the abrasion resistant barrier to the formed filter media.

Filter element

An external brace for a filter element is described. The brace is configured to wrap around an exterior of a filter element having a filter media pack. The brace helps to support the filter media pack during filtering operations by preventing outward flexing of the filter media pack caused by fluid flowing through the filter media. In some arrangements, the brace interfaces with a filtration system housing to provide additional support to the filter element.

Filtration systems having a normal filtration mode and an enhanced filtration mode are described. In some arrangements, the filtration system is an air filtration system having a primary air filter element, a pre-cleaner, and a pre-cleaner bypass valve. Based on feedback from an intake air quality sensor the bypass valve is either opened or closed to selectively route intake air through the pre-cleaner during sensed dirty air operating conditions (e.g., heavy dust or moisture concentrations). In other arrangements, the filtration system is a liquid filtration system (e.g., a fuel or oil filtration system) that has a main filter and a secondary filter. The filtration system selectively routes the liquid being filtered through the main filter, the secondary filter, or a combination thereof depending on a detected event or sensed characteristic of the liquid.

The air cleaner housing includes a first chamber that receives intake air through a first port, a second chamber that receives intake air from the first chamber and refined blowby gas from the conduit through a second port, and a third chamber that receives a mixture of intake air and refined blowby gas from the second chamber and discharges the mixture through a third port. A primary filter element filters the intake air as it passes from the first chamber to the second chamber. A secondary filter element filters the mixture as it passes from the second chamber to the third chamber.

Systems and methods for closed crankcase ventilation and air filtration

A system for providing air to an internal combustion engine comprises a crankcase ventilation unit that receives unrefined blowby gas from a crankcase, separates oil from the unrefined blowby gas, and discharges refined blowby gas. A conduit delivers the refined blowby gas to an air cleaner housing. The air cleaner housing comprises a first chamber that receives intake air through a first port, a second chamber that receives intake air from the first chamber and refined blowby gas from the conduit through a second port, and a third chamber that receives a mixture of intake air and refined blowby gas from the second chamber and discharges the mixture through a third port. A primary filter element filters the intake air as it passes from the first chamber to the second chamber. A secondary filter element filters the mixture as it passes from the second chamber to the third chamber.
