Knit fabrics and military apparel such as T-shirts made therefrom are disclosed. The fabrics are constructed from blended yarns made from an intimate combination of nylon and cotton staple fibers. Such fabrics comprise a weight ratio of cotton to nylon which ranges from about 55:45 to about 85:15, and these fabrics also have a weight ranging from about 3 to about 8 oz/yd. Knit fabrics of this type possess a desirable combination of good thermal protective properties, provided the specified high level of staple fiber blend uniformity is achieved, along with very useful abrasion resistance, bursting strength and drying time characteristics.

Knit fabrics and base layer garments made therefrom with improved thermal protective properties

This disclosure relates to a 'hybrid' fabric made from a textured multifilament yarn in combination with an untextured multifilament yarn. The portion of multifilament yarns comprising this hybrid fabric are substantially without bulk or texture while the textured portion of multifilament yarns comprising the fabric have bulk. Such hybrid fabrics from this combination of yarns retain substantially similar abrasion resistance and tactility of a fabric made entirely of high tenacity air textured multifilament yarns. Nylon woven hybrid fabrics disclosed herein provide excellent properties especially for uses in apparel, rucksacks, softsided luggage, duffle bags, tenting and the like.

Hybrid fabric

A carpet pad comprises a two-layer structure of a cushion and a barrier film formed of a synthetic polymeric material free of any fibrous substrate laminated thereto. The barrier film may be directly bonded to the cushion or bonded thereto using a layer of adhesive. The carpet pad is simultaneously impermeable to liquid deposited onto the pad from above the barrier film and permeable to moisture vapor at a moisture vapor transmission rate of at least 14.6 grams per square meter per twenty-four hours (14.6 g/m/24 hours). The carpet pad is sufficiently durable to maintain liquid impermeability as measured by a Vetterman Drum Wear Test/Staining/Stain Cleaning Test after at least ten thousand cycles or under a pressure of at least eight pounds per square inch (0.56 kg per square meter) as measured by a Modified Mullen Bursting Strength Test.

Durable, liquid impermeable and moisture vapor permeable carpet pad

A composite floor covering having an upper layer of a decorative fabric, a dimensionally stabilizing intermediate layer, and an optional lower cushioning layer has at least the upper surface of the decorative fabric coated with a protective polymeric coating in a manner such that the hand of the decorative fabric layer is substantially retained. The materials of the fabric layer, stabilizing layer, and cushioning layer (if provided) as well as the form of attachment therebetween, cooperate to render the floor covering substantially impervious to liquid.

Decorative composite floor coverings

A composite floor covering having an upper decorative layer, a stabilizing layer, and an optional cushioning layer is characterized in that the decorative layer itself comprises a fabric base and a plastic matrix having a transparent portion. The plastic matrix may include an opaque portion. At least the transparent portion of the plastic matrix has discrete fibrous structures embedded therein. The plastic matrix material is selected with melting and rheological characteristics such that the plastic matrix is prepared and applied to the fabric base in fluid form and solidifies under conditions at which the fabric base and embedded fibrous structures remain substantially intact. The fabric layer may be totally embedded within the plastic matrix or may form the lower surface of the plastic matrix. The decorative layer may include (i) fabric fragments, (ii) groupings of multi-oriented individual fibers, or (iii) mixtures of fragments and individual fibers. The fabric base may, if desired, have a decorative facing.

This invention relates to methods for making a carpet having a secondary backing which is substantially impervious to liquids. The methods involve applying a repellent finish onto the secondary backing material and drying the finish. The finish may be applied as foam to the secondary backing, against the force of gravity, by means of a press roll. This invention also includes the resultant carpets prepared from these methods.

Method for manufacturing a carpet having a secondary backing

This invention relates to methods for making a carpet having a secondary backing which is substantially impervious to aqueous solutions. The process involves applying a fluorochemical onto the underside of a secondary backing material, followed by drying and curing of the fluorochemical. The present invention relates to ply-twisted yarns comprising fiber blends of about 70 to 90 weight percent base fiber and about 10 to 30 percent non-melt compatible polyolefin fiber having a melting point of about 130.degree. to 170.degree.
