A fuel cell or an electrolyser includes at least one electrode and at least one polymer electrolyte membrane. The electrode includes a catalyst system comprising a carrier metal oxide and a catalyst material. The catalyst material is formed by an electrically conductive metal phosphate in the form of a metaphosphate of the general chemical formula Me(PO), where Me=metal, z=valency of the metal Me, and n is within the range of 1 to 10.

Fuel cell or electrolyser

A catalytic arrangement for an electrolyzer system or a fuel cell system includes a catalyst support unit and a catalyst layer, wherein the catalyst layer has a carbon matrix with a metal, non-metal and/or metalloid doping.

Layers for a bipolar plates are disclosed, as well as bipolar plates including the layers and fuel cells and/or electrolyzers including the bipolar plates. The layer may include a homogeneous or heterogeneous solid metallic solution or compound which either contains a first chemical element from the group of the noble metals in the form of iridium; or contains a first chemical element from the group of the noble metals in the form of iridium and a second chemical element from the group of the noble metals in the form of ruthenium. The layer may also include at least one further nonmetallic chemical element from the group consisting of nitrogen, carbon, boron, fluorine, and hydrogen.

Layer and layer system, as well as bipolar plate, fuel cell and electrolyser

A coating for a bipolar plate of a fuel cell or an electrolyzer contains a homogeneous or heterogeneous solid metal solution. The coating contains at least 15% Iridium and up to 84% Ruthenium with a total combined concentration of Iridium and Ruthenium of at least 99% (atomic). The coating also contains at least one of Nitrogen, Carbon, and Flourine. The coating may contain traces of Oxygen or Hydrogen. The coating may be used as part of a layer system that includes one or more undercoat layers and the coating as a covering layer.

A wheel bearing arrangement for a motor vehicle includes a wheel hub. The wheel hub is connected to a wheel flange. A multi-row rolling element bearing is mounted on the wheel hub. The bearing has an outer ring and at least one inner ring which is axially prestressed by a collar of the wheel hub. A zinc flake coating is formed on at least part of the wheel bearing arrangement to improve corrosion protection.

Energy storage is accomplished by producing hydrazine carbonate and later reconverting the hydrazine carbonate to release the energy. Sea water is firstly used in an electrolysis process to prepare hypochlorite. The hypochlorite reacts as a result of introduction of ammonia to produce monochloramine and then hydrazine. The hydrazine reacts as a result of introduction of carbon dioxide to give hydrazine carbonate. To release the energy, the hydrazine carbonate liberates hydrogen or at least a hydrogen-containing gas by reaction over a noble metal-free catalyst. The hydrogen may then be enriched before being fed to a fuel cell.

Components suitable for chemically aggressive environments are disclosed, as well as methods for producing the components. One component may include a substrate having at least one surface having a layer system, which may include an amorphous carbon layer. The layer system may include at least one metallic intermediate layer which is arranged between the substrate and the amorphous carbon layer. The metallic intermediate layer may include titanium, a titanium alloy, nickel, or a nickel alloy. A two-layer bonding layer may be arranged between the at least one intermediate layer and the substrate and a first bonding layer composed of NiP. A second bonding layer composed of a nickel-chromium alloy or a nickel-vanadium alloy may also be present. The amorphous carbon layer may form an outer layer of the layer system facing away from the substrate and may comprise at least one amorphous hydrogen-containing carbon layer.
