A light fixture controller is configured for controlling the color temperature and intensity of a light fixture that includes at least two LED groups. Each LED group includes multiple LEDs configured to produce light at certain color temperatures. The light fixture controller receives a color temperature setting and an intensity setting for the light fixture and generates control signals based on these settings. A first control signal only turns on the first LED group for a first duration of a cycle and a second control signal only turns on the second LED group for a second duration of the cycle. The ratio between the first and second duration is determined based on the color temperature setting. The control signal further includes a dimming control signal for controlling a current flowing through the LED groups based on the intensity setting for the light fixture.

An auxiliary power system for powering an auxiliary circuit is connected to the same power source that powers the lighting element within a luminaire. The auxiliary power system may be connected to the output of the power source in series or in parallel with the lighting element. The power source may be an LED driver and the lighting element may include one or more LEDs or the power source may be an electronic ballast and the lighting element may be one or more fluorescent lamps.

An LED assembly that includes optics and optical arrangements for light emitting diodes (LEDs). In some embodiments, a reflector is provided within a void between the lens and the LED. This reflector can reflect light emitted by the LED in a non-preferred direction back toward the preferred direction. In other embodiments, an optical element is formed or otherwise provided in the lens cavity and shaped so that, when the lens is positioned above the LED, the refractor bends the emitted light in a preferred direction. In some embodiments, both a reflector and optical element are provided in the LED assembly to control the directionality of the emitted light. Such embodiments of the invention can be used to increase the efficiency of an LED by ensuring that generated light is being directed to the target area of choice.

The present invention relates to luminaires and, in particular, to luminaires comprising light emitting diodes. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a luminaire comprising at least one light emitting diode, a reflector offset from the centerline of the luminaire and a collimator adapted to direct light from the least one light emitting diode along an axis offset from the vertical axis of the light emitting diode.

In one embodiment, tubes connect adjacent light sources. Coolant is introduced into the tubes and circulates into the chamber of each optic, thus removing thermal energy from the chamber. Coolant may be introduced into one of the channels, and may then circulate into the chamber of each optic to remove heat generated by the light source from the chamber. The channels provide a fluid path for the coolant to move between the different optics.

Collimators and methods of making collimators. According to certain embodiments a collimator may be used with a light source, where the light source emits light along a light source axis. The base of the collimator may be angled such that the collimator refracts the light in a direction that is angled relative to the light source axis. There may also be provided methods for making a collimator. According to one method, a mold is first provided that produces an uncut collimator having an extended portion. The uncut collimator may be cut at an angle to produce a collimator with an angled base. In another method, there may be a mold with a base cavity, and a wedge may be inserted in the base cavity. The wedge forms a collimator with an angled base.

A luminaire can comprise an electronic circuit, such as an LED driver or electronic ballast. A surge protection device in the current path between a power supply and the luminaire components can be configured to protect the electronic circuitry by absorbing and/or redirecting energy of a surge by switching into a low-impedance state while maintaining the protected circuitry (including its internal protective components, if any) in a high-impedance state. The surge protection device can comprise a MOV stage and a filter stage, for example. The surge protection device can be configured as a replaceable module, with the luminaire including an assembly designed to receive the module and allow for easy replacement over the useful life of the other components. Use of fuses or thermal components may cause the surge protection device to interrupt power flow if protection is lost due to internal failure, indicating when module replacement is needed.

The present invention relates to a reflector assembly for a luminaire where the reflector assembly comprises an anti-static member disposed between a lamp of the luminaire and a reflector body. In various aspects the anti-static member may be glass, plastic or other transparent or translucent materials and the reflector may be substantially sealed from the atmosphere by the anti-static member or the anti-static member in cooperation with a cover of the reflector assembly.

A reflector () for a luminaire comprises a generally parabolic wall () having series of main right-angled prisms () and an interleaved series of transition prisms (). The main and transition prisms have essentially the same shapes and follow the same overall curvature to control the illumination. The transition prisms transition into the main prisms by merging a peak of a transition prism into the valley between adjacent main prisms in a short transition zone (). Thus, the transition zone has only a small effect on the overall lighting pattern.

A luminaire reflector of the type that is dome-shaped and includes a flange at the bottom provides a modified a flange that alters the pattern or other effect of light trapped in the wall of the reflector and exiting through the flange. When the bottom surface of the flange is angled with respect to the horizontal, the light exiting the flange is spread and lifted. In accordance with another embodiment, the flange is provided with a colored layer to provide decorative effects to the light exiting the flange.

Luminaire optical assemblies intended for pole-mounted and similar applications and capable of effective I.E.S. cutoff performance while exhibiting desirable light distributions even with vertically oriented lamping, the invention contemplates in primary embodiments light-transmissive reflector/refractor combinations typically formed of glass, acrylics and the like, uplight shielding and reflector assemblies of a variety of configurations being disposed within the reflector/refractor combinations to produce desired cutoff characteristics while preserving daytime appearance during nocturnal operation. In certain embodiments of the invention, uplight is controlled by the several variations of the uplight shielding and reflector assemblies to cause light-transmissive portions of the reflector/refractor combinations to subtly glow and thus produce a desired appearance while also producing cutoff characteristics necessary to reduce urban sky glow and glare. The luminaire optical assemblies further permit achievement of I.E.S. cutoff with vertical tamping while maximizing efficiency.
