A data storage device includes a non-volatile memory device including a memory block including a number of memory dies, and a controller coupled to the non-volatile memory device. A read command is received from an external device and the controller determines whether a read operation associated with the read command is a sequential read operation. One or more relocation operations are performed in response to determining that the read operation is a sequential read operation. The one or more relocation operations are executed in an order based on a priority associated with each of the one or more relocation operations.

Write performance by relocation during sequential reads

A data storage device including, in one implementation, a non-volatile memory device having a memory block including a number of memory dies, and a controller coupled to the non-volatile memory device. An activity level of the data storage device is monitored to determine whether the data storage device is in an idle condition based on the monitored activity level. Background operations are performed in response to the data storage device being determined to be in an idle condition Relocation operations are then performed in response to determining that the data storage device remains in the idle condition, wherein the relocation operations are executed in an order based on a priority level associated with each of the relocation operations.

Efficient handling of background operations for improving sustained performance of host reads and writes

A storage system has a pool of reserved memory blocks that can be used either as control blocks or as overprovision blocks. A controller in the storage system can dynamically allocate one or more blocks reserved for control blocks as extra overprovision blocks. If the storage system is running low on control blocks, the controller can allocate the extra blocks from overprovision pool back as control blocks.

Systems and methods for using Peripheral Component Interconnect Express Vendor-Defined Message (PCIe-VDM) and Inter-Integrated Circuit (IC) transport for network communications are described. In some embodiments, an IHS may include: a host processor; a Basic Input/Output System (BIOS) coupled to the host processor; a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC) coupled to the host processor; and a memory coupled to the BMC, the memory having program instructions stored thereon that, upon execution, cause the BMC to: receive a message over a network while the host processor is powered off, wherein the message originates from a remote IHS and targets the BMC; and in response to a pass-through data transfer rate available to the BMC not meeting a threshold value: power on the host processor; request that the BIOS boot up; and perform a communication with the remote IHS via a PCIe bus using a PCIe-VDM supported by the host processor.
