An apparatus and method for removing excess material, preferably a powder, from a cavity of a component, wherein the apparatus includes: a platform for retaining the component, preferably an additively manufactured component, a drive mechanism being coupled to the platform, wherein the drive mechanism is configured to rotate the component being retained by the platform independently around two orthogonal spatial directions and each with an unlimited angular deflection, an actuator for mechanically actuating the platform during a removal of the excess material, and a housing, defining a working space in which the excess material can be removed from the cavity, wherein the housing seals the working space against an environment, and wherein any electrical components for the drive mechanism are arranged out of the working space.

Apparatus for removing excess material and method of operating the same

A method for producing a three-dimensional component having one or more cavities by powder-based additive manufacturing, such as selective laser melting or electron beam melting, using an additive manufacturing machine. The method includes creating 3D-CAD-data of the component to be produced using a computer-aided design method; b) identifying the cavities of the component in the 3D-CAD-data and verifying, that each cavity has at least one outlet passage connecting the cavity to the outer environment of the component, wherein, if there is no such outlet passage, it is created within the 3D-CAD-data; c) producing the component on a construction platform of the additive manufacturing machine on the basis of the 3D-CAD-data; d) removing powder present within the cavities and within the outlet passages through the outlet passages and e) heat-treating the construction platform and the component arranged thereon in a heat treatment oven.

Additive manufacturing method

A method for additively manufacturing a tip structure on a pre-existing part includes: a) placing the part in a build space of a beam-assisted additive manufacturing setup and below a transparent aligning plate, b) engraving a top contour of the part onto the aligning plate with an energy beam of the setup, c) aligning a top surface of the part such that the top surface coincides with the engraved contour, d) removing the aligning plate from the setup, and e) additively manufacturing the tip structure according to a predefined geometry on the top surface.

Method for additively manufacturing a tip structure on a pre-existing part

An apparatus for additive manufacturing includes a platform comprising a fixing device for fixing a component to the platform, wherein the platform is configured to vary an orientation of the component over an angle of at least 360&#xb0; according to at least one spatial direction, and an actuation device for mechanically actuating the platform at a predefined frequency.

Quality control method and control system for a stock of a base material for the additive manufacture of components includes selecting a batch of a base material out of a plurality of indexed batches of the stock, wherein base material assigned to the same batch index is indicative to the quality of the respective base material, loading a quantity of base material of the selected batch into a manufacturing system, additively manufacturing the component from the base material, wherein the base material of the selected batch is exposed to manufacturing conditions in a build area and updating the batch index of the base material remaining from the additive manufacture in the build area according to the exposure.
