A cutting tool and cutter body assembly, including a disk-shaped cutter body and a plurality of support pads removably retained therein, the cutter body having an axis of rotation, two opposing end surfaces and a body peripheral surface extending therebetween. Each support pad intersects one of two annular-shaped planes equidistantly offset from opposite sides of a median plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation, and the cutter body intersects neither of the two annular-shaped planes. Each support pad is configured to make operative contact with a machined surface of a workpiece perpendicular to the axis of rotation. Each support pad has opposing upper and lower surfaces and a pad peripheral surface extending therebetween, the pad peripheral surface having an upper portion intersecting the upper surface, and the upper portion exhibiting N-fold rotational symmetry about a pad axis non-perpendicular to the lower surface.

Rotary cutting tool having disk-shaped cutter body provided with support pads

An indexable cutting insert has two cutting protrusions extending from opposite end surfaces towards a mid plane. Each cutting protrusion has a rear surface, an oppositely facing rake surface, a relief surface. A main cutting edge is formed at the intersection of the rake and relief surfaces, and extends between two main cutting edge ends. An edge projection is formed by a line connecting longitudinal projections of the main cutting edge ends of each main cutting edge. The edge projections of both of the main cutting edges form a non-zero first angle therebetween. The rake surfaces of the cutting protrusions are located on longitudinally opposite end surfaces of the cutting insert. Two clamping recesses and two abutment recesses serve as contact surfaces for clamping the cutting insert in an insert pocket of a cutting tool.

Indexable asymmetric cutting insert and cutting tool therefor

A tangential cutting insert has three pairs of surfaces. A first pair has upper and lower surfaces, a second pair has front and rear surfaces, and a third pair has two side surfaces. The upper and lower surfaces and the side surfaces extend between the front and rear surfaces. A main cutting edge is formed at the intersection of the front surface with the upper surface. A front portion of the upper surface extends rearwardly from the main cutting edge and upwardly toward a central portion of the upper surface as seen in a side view of the cutting insert. The main cutting edge associated with the upper surface is curved and slopes downwardly toward each of the auxiliary cutting edges as seen in a front view of the cutting insert.

Cutting insert

A milling cutter with a disk like cutter body having radially directed slots and a central aperture. An exchangeable hub comprises two adapter members located on either side of the cutter body. One of the adapter members has a raised portion located in the central aperture. The adapter members are secured to the cutter body by means of pins which are located in blind holes in the adapter members and which pass through engagement members positioned in the slots.

Milling cutter

A tangential cutting insert having first and second opposing end surfaces and a peripheral side surface extending therebetween. First and second edges are formed at the intersection of the first and second end surfaces with the peripheral side surface. A groove in the peripheral side surface extends between and intersects the first and second end surfaces at first and second minor edges. In first and second opposing side views of the cutting insert, at least the first edge is generally concave.

Tangential cutting insert and milling cutter

A rectangular blade-type cutting tool having two edge-on cutting inserts mounted at one end of the blade in a staggered formation with their cutting edges partially overlapping. This type of cutting blade finds particular application in disc-type cutting tool assemblies used for cutting pipes. In such a cutting tool assembly the blade-type cutting tools in accordance with the present invention are equally peripherally distributed on an end face of the cutting tool assembly with the operative cutting edges of each of cutting blade inwardly directed and equally distanced with respect to the axis of rotation of the cutting tool assembly. With such a cutting tool assembly it is only necessary to cut the thickness of a pipe without the necessity of passing across its entire diameter allowing for quick and economical cutting of the pipe.

A rotary cutting tool having the general form of a circular disk with cutting inserts secured tangentially to the circumference of the tool's body, for metal machining in general and for machining cam lobes. The cutting inserts have concave side surfaces and concave cutting edges.

Rotary cutting tool

A slotting cutter and a method for constructing the slotting cutter. The slotting cutter is structurally divided into two portions, a central adapter portion and a cutter portion. The central adapter portion is a disk with an F-type or S-type adapter. The cutter portion is an annular ring provided with cutting insert receiving pockets, or cartridge receiving pockets. The cutter portion and a body portion are manufactured separately and combined to form the slotting cutter by a heat shrinkage method.

Slotting cutter

An adjustment mechanism for adjusting an insert pocket wall's abutment surface in order to alter the location of an insert mounted in the pocket. The adjustment mechanism includes an adjustment screw and adjustment ball located in an adjustment bore. The adjustment ball is located in the vicinity of the pocket wall and on tightening the adjustment screw the adjustment ball is forced against the pocket wall. The force applied by the adjustment ball deforms the pocket wall in the region of contact between the adjustment ball and the pocket wall resulting in the required adjustment of the abutment surface.
