Curable adhesive articles having topographical features therein

Methods of forming displays are described. The displays have zinc oxide row and column drivers integrated onto the same display substrate as zinc oxide pixel transistors and organic light emitting diodes. The organic light emitting diodes are prepared, at least in part, using a thermal transfer process from a donor sheet.

Methods of making displays

Provided is a flexible heat sink article comprising a base comprising a polymer and a plurality of polymeric protrusions extending away from the base, each protrusion having a major dimension and a minor dimension. The base comprises thermally conductive particles, and the protrusions comprise non-spherical thermally conductive particles substantially aligned in the direction of the major dimension within the protrusions. A thermal interface material may be provided contiguous with the base. Also provided is a flexible heat sink article comprising a base comprising a polymer and having a first surface and a second surface, a plurality of polymeric protrusions extending away from the first surface of the base, each protrusion having a major and a minor dimension, and a metallic layer contiguous with the second surface of the base, wherein the base and the protrusions comprise thermally conductive particles. Also provided is a method of making a flexible heat sink.

Flexible heat sink

An adhesive article includes a release liner and an adhesive layer on the surface of the release liner. The release liner has a surface with an arrangement of structures thereon, wherein the structures extend downward from a plane of the surface. The structures have at least three sidewalls. A first sidewall makes an angle with respect to the plane of the surface of greater than about 0&#xb0; and less than 90&#xb0; and a second sidewall makes an angle with respect to the plane of the surface of greater than 0&#xb0; and less than about 90&#xb0;. The first sidewall angle differs from the second sidewall angle by more than about 10&#xb0;.

Adhesives and release liners with pyramid structures

A multilayer film article is disclosed. The film includes an infrared light reflecting multilayer film having alternating layers of a first polymer type and a second polymer type and an infrared light absorbing or reflecting layer adjacent the multilayer film. The film includes a multilayer stack composed of alternating optical layers of first and second diverse polymers A, B. The optical layers when counted from one end of a first effective optical packet form a plurality of unit cells each having six optical layers arranged in relative optical thicknesses in a first cyclic permutation of 7A1B1A7B1A1B. At normal incidence the first effective optical packet provides a reflection band at infrared wavelengths and substantially transmits light at visible wavelengths.

An integrated optical assembly including a light management component with an entry surface and a light delivery component having an exit surface attached to the entry surface of the light management component is disclosed The light management component and the light delivery component are attached together in a manner that defines voids between the entry surface of the light management component and the exit surface of the light delivery component. The voids between the light management component and the light delivery component may provide an air interface over substantial portions of the entry surface of the light management component.

Multifunctional optical assembly

Optical bodies, comprising: a plurality of first optical layers comprising a first polymer composition that comprises (i) a polyester portion having terephthalate comonomer units and ethylene glycol comonomer units; and (ii) a second portion corresponding to a polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least about 130&#xb0; C.; and a plurality of second optical layers disposed in a repeating sequence with the plurality of first optical layers. Also disclosed are optical bodies comprising: (a) a plurality of first optical layers, each first optical layer being oriented; and (b) a plurality of second optical layers, disposed in a repeating sequence with the plurality of first optical layers, comprising a blend of polymethylmethacrylate and polyvinylidene fluoride. Methods of making the above-described optical bodies, and articles employing such optical bodies are also provided.

Adhesives and release liners with pyramidal structures

A film includes a multilayer stack composed of unit cells having alternating optical layers of first and second diverse polymers A,B. The unit cells can consist essentially of two (AB), four (2A1B2C1B), or six layers (7A1B1A7B1A1B). The layers form an effective optical packet disposed between non-optical layers, the beginning and ending optical layers of which are selected to control an optical figure of merit such as spectral noise in the visible region. The arrangement of layers beginning at one end of the effective optical packet defines a specific cyclic permutation of the unit cell layer order, which provides a better figure of merit than an effective optical packet of similar design but having a different cyclic permutation.

Optical bodies, comprising: a plurality of first optical layers comprising a first polymer composition that comprises (i) a polyester portion having terephthalate comonomer units and ethylene glycol comonomer units, and (ii) a second portion corresponding to a polymer having a glass transition temperature of at least about 130&#xb0; C.; and a plurality of second optical layers disposed in a repeating sequence with the plurality of first optical layers. Also disclosed are optical bodies comprising: (a) a plurality of first optical layers, each first optical layer being oriented; and (b) a plurality of second optical layers, disposed in a repeating sequence with the plurality of first optical layers, comprising a blend of polymethylmethacrylate and polyvinylidene fluoride. Methods of making the above-described optical bodies, and articles employing such optical bodies are also provided.

Described are multilayer optical composites including a first layer having an index of refraction n, an ilayer having an index of refraction ngreater than n, and one or two or more intermediate layers between the first layer and the ilayer, wherein the indices of refraction of the intermediate layers are between nand n, and the index of refraction of each intermediate layer increases in the order of position of each layer from the first layer.

Multilayer optical adhesives and articles

Methods and apparatuses are provided for the manufacture of coextruded polymeric multilayer optical films. The multilayer optical films have an ordered arrangement of layers of two or more materials having particular layer thicknesses and a prescribed layer thickness gradient throughout the multilayer optical stack. The methods and apparatuses described allow improved control over individual layer thicknesses, layer thickness gradients, indices of refraction, interlayer adhesion, and surface characteristics of the optical films. The methods and apparatuses described are useful for making interference polarizers, mirrors, and colored films that are optically effective over diverse portions of the ultraviolet, visible, and infrared spectra.
