A system includes system housing, an eccentric radiation source, and a radiation sensor. The radiation produced by the eccentric radiation source can be collected by the radiation sensor to generate images of retinas for a patient. The system also includes a vision screening device connected with the eccentric radiation source and the radiation sensor via the system house that can control and synchronize actions for the eccentric radiation source and the radiation sensor. The vision screening device further analyzes the images generated by the radiation sensor via neural network algorithms to determine spherical error slopes, refractive errors, and recommendations for the patient.

Garment for respiratory therapy

A vision screening apparatus conducts a photorefraction ocular screening test to generate refractive error data. Based on the refractive error data, a Snellen equivalent is determined. An evaluated person distance from the vision screening apparatus is also determined and used to generate an adjusted optotype size. The vision screening apparatus displays the optotype, adjusted for the Snellen equivalent and the evaluated person distance.

Visual acuity examination

Devices, systems, and methods for monitoring and determining characteristics of wounds on a subject are disclosed. A monitoring device includes an imaging component and a computing device communicatively coupled to the imaging component. The imaging component includes a light emitting component that emits light at a calibrated wavelength, a laser emitting device, and an imaging device. The computing device directs the light emitting component to emit the light at the calibrated wavelength, directs the imaging component to cause the laser emitting device to emit a laser projection toward the wound, receives, from the imaging component, image data captured by the imaging device, determines, from the image data, the characteristics of the wound, and scores the wound based on the characteristics of the wound to obtain a wound score. The characteristics include one or more of a size of the wound, a type of tissue, and an amount of exudate.

Devices, systems, and methods for monitoring wounds

One apparatus includes a notch filter that has a state observer unit and a parameter adaptation unit. The state observer unit is configured to receive a sampled noisy electrical signal and a sampled filtered electrical signal, the state observer unit having an estimated noise signal output, the estimated noise signal output carrying an estimated noise signal to be subtracted from the sampled noisy electrical signal, resulting in the filtered electrical signal. The parameter adaptation unit is configured to receive the estimated noise signal and an error signal from the state observer unit. The parameter adaptation unit is also configured to determine, based on the estimated noise signal and the error signal, an updated estimated noise frequency, thereby causing the state observer unit to generate an updated estimated noise signal to be provided on the estimated noise signal output.

Frequency-adaptive notch filter

Friction existing between any two surfaces having relative motion is nonlinear, multiform, and is difficult to model. Nonlinear friction in the actuator pivot of a hard disk drive (HDD) limits the low frequency gain, which prevents the system positioning accuracy from further improvement. This problem is much more pronounced for the severe nonlinearity at the micrometer level. The conventional two-mode proximate time optimal servomechanism (PTOS) is inadequate for immediate future hard disk drives because of the existence of restrictions in the particular design approach. A triple-mode control scheme, and its variations, as presented herein, include (a) a proximate time-optimal controller (PTOC) having a relatively large output is used for track seeking, (b) a robust compensator having a relatively small output is used for track following to compensate for friction and other nonlinearities, and (c) a bridging (connection) control to guarantee the continuity of the control signals. Because of the introduction of an extra mode, additional freedoms for controler design are made available for improved performance. The robust compensator is non-model based in the sense that it does not depend on the models of friction and other nonlinearities. This makes the invention simpler and more practical than conventional systems.
