Disclosed herein are wavelength-division multiplexing devices using different angles of incidence (AOIs) at the WDM filters to provide for variable placement and orientation of WDM filters and channel ports, thereby decreasing the device footprint and allowing for shorter overall optical signal paths to increase signal performance and reliability. Also disclosed are stacked WDM filters for increased signal isolation.

Wavelength-division multiplexing devices with modified angles of incidence

In various embodiments, free-space optical collimator and multi-channel wavelength division multiplexers including free-space optical collimators are provided. In one embodiment, for example, a free-space optical collimator includes a base having a length, a generally flat bottom surface and a top surface. A groove is disposed along the top surface of the base extending through the length of the base. A lens is disposed within the groove of the base and a fiber optic pigtail is disposed generally adjacent to a focal point of the lens. The lens and fiber optic pigtail are aligned within the groove to reduce an off-angle offset of an optical light signal propagating through the free-space optical collimator. In other embodiments, a process of producing a free-space optical collimator is also provided.

Disclosed herein is a wavelength-division multiplexing device with a unified passband. In particular, disclosed is a wavelength-division multiplexing (WDM) device with at least a common port, a channel port, and a WDM filter. The common port is configured for optical communication of a multiplexed signal to the WDM filter. A demultiplexed signal of the multiplexed signal includes a first secondary demultiplexed signal within a first wavelength range and a second secondary demultiplexed signal within a second wavelength range, which are separated from each other by a third wavelength range. The first WDM filter has a single unified passband including the first wavelength range, the second wavelength range, and the third wavelength range, such that the first WDM filter is configured to pass the first secondary demultiplexed signal and the second secondary demultiplexed signal to the first channel port.

An optical fiber shuffle includes a protective shell and a number of crossover optical cables. The protective shell supports and fixes the crossover optical cables. Each of the crossover optical cables includes a support member, a number of first optical cable units, and a number of second optical cable units. The support member is coupled to the number of first optical cable units and the number of second optical cable units. Each of the first optical cable units includes a number of optical fiber units. The optical fiber units extend into the support member, are sequentially redistributed in the support member, and enter into corresponding second optical cable units. Ends of the first optical cable units facing away from the support member and ends of the second optical cable units facing away from the support member are coupled to a corresponding optical module.

An optical fiber shuffle for recombining a plurality of optical fibers of a first optical cable into a second optical cable includes a fixing rod, a first fixing plate, and a second fixing plate. The first fixing plate defines a plurality of first fixing grooves. The first fixing grooves are configured to respectively receive the plurality of optical fibers of the first optical cable. The second fixing plate defines a plurality of second fixing grooves. The second fixing groves are configured to respectively receive the plurality of optical fibers of the first optical cable after the plurality of optical fibers is wound around the fixing rod and recombined into the second optical cable. The first fixing plate and the second fixing plate are respectively located at two ends of the fixing rod.

The loopback apparatus includes an optical fiber having input and output ends and an output optical fiber having input and output ends. The loopback apparatus also includes a thin-film filter disposed in the optical path and configured to provide a select amount of attenuation for light traveling over the optical path. An optical signal isolation device comprising a common port, an isolated diagnostic port, an integrated circulator comprising an input circulator fiber, an output circulator fiber, and a fiber-to-fiber optical coupler configured to couple an isolated optical signal propagating along the input circulator fiber to the output circulator fiber for propagation along the output circulator fiber, a multi-fiber alignment body that secures at least portions of each of the multi-signal fiber, the isolated diagnostic signal fiber, the input circulator fiber, and the output circulator fiber, and a wavelength-selective optical assembly including an optical signal filter, fiber-to-filter focusing optics, and a communications signal reflector. The integrated circulator and the wavelength selective optical assembly are configured such that the communications component is retro-reflected back to the common port and the diagnostic component is passes out of the isolated diagnostic port.

The micro-optical systems disclosed herein employ a glass tube having a body, a front end, a back end, an outer surface, and a bore that runs through the body between the front and back ends and that has a bore axis. The outer surface has a maximum outer dimension between 0.1 mm and 20 mm and includes at least one flat side. At least one optical element is inserted into and operably disposed and secured within the bore. The micro-optical assemblies are formed by securing one or more micro-optical systems to a substrate at the flat side of the glass tube. The glass tube is formed by a drawing process that allows for the dimensions of the glass tube to be small and formed with relatively high precision. An example of a compact WDM micro-optical assembly that employs micro-collimators is disclosed.

A design of optical testing device or system for fiber arrays is disclosed. According to one aspect of the invention, an array of light sources and an array of detectors are disclosed. One of the light sources is controlled to be turned on to test a designated fiber in an array of fibers being tested for connection issues. A microcontroller is configured to determine which one of the detectors is detecting a light beam from one of the light sources, and mark a channel of the array of fibers accordingly depending on if the one of the detectors is supposed to detect the light beam; if another one of the detectors detects the light beam; or if none of the detectors detects the light beam.
