A base station can obtain channel quality conditions for mobile devices in a scheduling interval and identify a channel quality, a target transmission scheme, and a transmission power level for each of the mobile devices. The base station can assign a unique orthogonal CDMA code and can force the mobile devices to transmit K repeated bursts of uplink data such that each of the mobile devices has a rotated phase shift based on the unique orthogonal CDMA code assigned to each of the mobile devices with each of the mobile devices multiplexed on a same physical channel using an overlaid CDMA operation. The base station can process K repeated bursts that are multiplexed on the same physical channel using the overlaid CDMA operation. The base station can separate the mobile devices according to the unique orthogonal CDMA code and use IQ accumulation according to combine the K repeated bursts.

Enhanced overlaid code division multiple access (CDMA)

An apparatus to estimate a frequency offset in wireless networks is provided. The apparatus comprises: radio frequency (RF) circuitry to down-convert a signal from a base station to generate in-phase and quadrature (IQ) components, wherein the signal includes one or more repeated bursts; and a frequency offset estimator operatively coupled to the RF circuitry, the frequency offset estimator to estimate a frequency offset based on the IQ components and an iterative calculation of phase differences between different sets of bursts of the one or more repeated bursts.

A device and method for estimating a frequency offset of a received signal is provided. The device comprises: a plurality of phase estimation units, each of the plurality of phase estimation units adapted for receiving one of a plurality of data parts of the received signal and estimating a phase caused by the frequency offset from the received data part, wherein the plurality of data parts comprises payload data and known symbols in the received signal. The method comprises determining single antenna receiving quality indicators for all activated antennas if a receiver receiving quality indicator of the receiver is above a first threshold, and deactivating all the activated antennas except one activated antenna with a single antenna receiving quality indicator indicating best receiving quality based on the determined single antenna receiving quality indicators.
