A reinforced corner post assembly for cushioning and protecting a packaged article from axial and lateral forces. The assembly comprises a conventional corner post having an outer wall and an inner wall joined at opposing ends to form a hollow tube and one or more reinforcing tubes disposed longitudinally within the hollow interior of the corner post.

Reinforced packaging support post assembly

An improved support post for cushioning and supporting large products is provided. The post is made from a sheet that is convolutely wound around a mandrel and shaped into a desired shape. The improvement comprises making the sheet from multiple thicknesses of paper so that, upon winding the sheet into a tube, the middle layer of the tube is thicker than the outer layers. The post has a higher axial compression strength than a conventional post, but the same amount (weight) of material.

I-beam wall corner post

Wide ply gaps are intentionally introduced into one or more plies in a radially intermediate zone of the wall of a spirally wound tube. Each ply having wide ply gaps is narrower than the width that would ordinarily be employed at a given spiral winding angle to achieve a butt joint between adjacent edges of consecutive turns of the ply, and the ply is wound at that given spiral winding angle in such a manner that gaps are defined between the adjacent edges of the consecutive turns of the ply. The wide ply gaps have the effect of increasing the compliance of the intermediate zone of the tube wall in the radial direction. Such increased radial compliance has been found to improve the ID stiffness of the tube relative to a tube constructed of the same materials but having no ply gaps in the intermediate zone.

Composite paperboard container constructions, providing optimized axial crush strength, and related properties, are formed of one, two, or three structural paperboard plies that are arranged to form a layered body wall having a cross-section of the construction in the ordered structure, high compression strength paperboard layer&bsol;low compression strength paperboard layer&bsol;high compression strength paperboard layer. Preferably, the container body is formed of one or two structural plies and at least one structural ply is a multiple layer paperboard having both high compression strength and low compression strength paperboard layers.

Composite paperboard containers of optimized axial strength construction

A multiple-piece corner post used for cushioning and supporting large appliances is provided. The corner post is made from two or more structural members joined together. The multiple structural members are shaped into the desired shapes and then joined together near the ends to form a generally &ldquo;L&rdquo; shaped corner post. Similarly shaped structural members may be nested to save space during shipping prior to assembly.

Multiple-piece corner post

A product support such as a corner post used for cushioning and supporting large appliances is provided. The support post comprises spaced substantially parallel opposing walls connected at the ends. The opposing walls have at least one area of contact spaced from the ends wherein the opposing walls are joined along at least part of the area of contact. The opposing walls may be joined by adhesive, stitching, or other suitable means.

An improved post made of multiple sheets of paper for supporting and cushioning a product. The sheets are joined end to end and wound into a tubular shape having a strong-weak-strong profile in the transverse direction. The ends of the sheets are joined together in such a way that the post has a uniform wall thickness.

A multi-grade spirally wound paperboard winding core of enhanced resistance to inside diameter deformation includes a plurality of structural paperboard layers having at least two predetermined densities including a lower density and a higher density wherein the lower density is at least about 3% less than the higher density. The cylindrical bodywall is defined in radial cross section by at least one centrally located paperboard layer disposed between at least one radially inwardly located structural paperboard layer and at least one radially outwardly located structural paperboard layer. The centrally located paperboard layer is formed from the lower density paperboard and the inwardly and outwardly located structural paperboard layer are formed from higher density paperboard.

Multi-grade paperboard winding cores for yarns and films having enhanced

The invention provides spirally wound paperboard cores for winding of textiles and other materials and which have enhanced high speed winding capability. The spirally wound paperboard plies forming the body wall of the paperboard core have a predetermined spiral winding angle with respect to the axis of the cylindrical body wall of greater than 71 degrees. In winding cores having a relatively large ID of between about 4.8 in. (120 mm) and 6 in. (150 mm), the paperboard plies forming the spirally wound cores have a winding angle of greater than 74 degrees. In winding cores having a lower ID of less than 4.8 inches (120 mm), all of the paperboard plies have a width of 3.5 in. (89 mm) or less and a spiral winding angle of greater than 71 degrees.
