According to an aspect, there is provided a method for minimising error in ambient light corrected (ALC) images due to motion. The method comprises capturing a plurality of primary images of an object over a time window, with controlled illumination of the object varying over time, performing ambient light correction on at least a portion of the plurality of primary images to generate a plurality of ambient light corrected images, each ALC image being generated based on demodulating a sub-set of the plurality of primary images with differing controlled illumination, calculating an error value for pairs of ALC images, each pair of ALC images including a first ALC image and a second ALC image and comparing the error values for each pair of ALC images and selecting an error-minimised image from the pair of ALC images having the lowest error value within the time window Calculating the error value comprises comparing each pixel of the first ALC image with a corresponding pixel of the second ALC image, and determining a change in intensity for each pixel between the first ALC image and the second ALC image, and calculating an error value for the pair of ALC images based on the change in intensity over a plurality of pixels.

Predicting the appearance of a user following treatment

The method comprises receiving () data corresponding to an ambient-corrected image of a subject illuminated by an illumination unit () providing temporally modulated illumination with a modulation frequency that is higher than a frame acquisition rate used by an imaging device () to obtain a set of images having a different spatial intensity modulation pattern in each image. The ambient-corrected image is constructed from the obtained set of images. The method () further comprises determining () a signal-to-noise ratio, SNR, of at least a portion of the ambient-corrected image. In response to determining that the SNR is below a target SNR, the method causes () an indication of an illumination parameter to be sent to the illumination unit to increase an amplitude modulation depth of the temporally modulated illumination used to illuminate the subject while the imaging device acquires a subsequent set of images for constructing a subsequent ambient-corrected image.

Signal-to-noise ratio targeting

A handheld personal care device having one or more light emitting elements and one or more light receiving elements is disclosed. Each of the light receiving elements is configured to receive light and output a respective measurement signal representing measurements of the received light. The handheld personal care device also has a control unit to estimate a position and/or an orientation of the device relative to a subject. A computer-implemented method of determining a location of a personal care device with respect to a skin surface of a subject, the personal care device being configured to perform a personal care treatment to the skin when in contact with the skin surface. Determining a location of a device

In an embodiment, a method () is described. The method is a computer-implemented method. The method comprises receiving () pixel information corresponding to at least part of a first, second and third image, acquired by an imaging system, of a subject illuminated by temporally modulated illumination. A time delay between an acquisition start time of the first, second and third images is such that there is an overlap in time during acquisition of the first, second and third images. The method further comprises determining () modified pixel information for constructing a modified image of the subject. The modified pixel information is determined based on: a difference between the received pixel information of the first, second and third images to reduce an effect of ambient lighting in the received pixel information; and a combination of the received pixel information to cancel out a spatial intensity modulation pattern apparent in each of the first, second and third images. The spatial intensity modulation pattern is due to a timing relationship between an imaging time period over which the imaging system acquires each image and a modulation time period of the temporally modulated illumination.

A hair cutting device for cutting hair on a body of a subject includes a light source for generating laser light at one or more specific wavelengths corresponding to wavelengths absorbed by one or more chromophores in hair; and a cutting element that has an optical waveguide that is coupled to the light source to receive laser light. A portion of a side wall of the optical waveguide forms a cutting face for contacting hair where, at least at the cutting face, the optical waveguide has a refractive index that is equal to or lower than the refractive index of hair and higher than the refractive index of skin.

The present invention relates to an oxytocin release stimulation device (′) that can be arranged at or close to skin of a user (). The oxytocin release stimulation device (′) comprises a lighting unit (′) and a control unit (″). The control unit (″) controls the lighting unit (′) such that the lighting unit (′) provides light with specific wavelengths and radiant exposures to the skin of the user () for a duration that ensures stimulation of a release of oxytocin.
