Certain exemplary method and/or apparatus embodiments herein can include&#x2014;a support frame, &#x2014;a movable gantry that supports an x-ray source and an x-ray sensor in correspondence with the x-ray source and that is movable relative to the support frame, &#x2014;a patient positioning accessory support member configured to support a patient positioning accessory of a specific type that is adapted to be used in the apparatus for conducting a specific examination on a patient, where the patient positioning accessory comprises at least one passive identification element that identifies the specific type of the patient positioning accessory, and the apparatus further comprises an active identification system that is configured to cooperate with the at least one passive identification element of the patient positioning accessory in order to identify the specific type of the patient positioning accessory.

A patient positioning apparatus for an extra-oral imaging system that includes a support base adjustable in at least one dimension and a cephalometric module coupled to the support base and configured to position a cephalometric imaging sensor about an imaging area formed with an x-ray source, where x-rays from the x-ray source impinge the cephalometric sensor after radiating the imaging area. A patient positioning unit is positioned operatively near the imaging area, and a retractable Frankfort plane positioning indicator and methods for using the same are provided.

An extra-oral imaging apparatus is intended to obtain a cephalometric image of a portion of a head of a patient. Exemplary apparatus embodiments of cephalometric functionality of such extra-oral imaging apparatus can include a cephalometric support mounted to a base of the imaging system that is configured to position a cephalometric sensor about a cephalometric imaging area so that x-rays impinge the cephalometric sensor after radiating the cephalometric imaging area. A cephalometric patient positioning unit mounted to the cephalometric support can be positioned between an x-ray source of the x-rays and the cephalometric sensor. A cephalometric alignment sight can be mounted to patient positioning unit to provide a visual indication of alignment between the x-ray source and the mounted alignment sight/cephalometric sensors. Exemplary methods are provided that can use such exemplary cephalometric alignment sights and/or install cephalometric functionality to imaging systems using the same.

Method and device to adjust a cephalometric extra oral dental imaging devices

An extra-oral imaging apparatus is intended to obtain a cephalometric image of a portion of a head of a patient. Exemplary apparatus embodiments of cephalometric functionality of such extra-oral imaging apparatus can include a cephalometric support mounted to a base of the imaging system that is configured to position a cephalometric sensor about a cephalometric imaging area so that x-rays impinge the cephalometric sensor after radiating the cephalometric imaging area. A cephalometric collimator can be mounted to a patient positioning unit to provide secondary collimation of the x-ray beam for the cephalometric sensor. Exemplary apparatus and/or method embodiments of the application relates to providing a measurable indication of alignment between a cephalometric collimator and cephalometric sensor or the extra-oral imaging apparatus, which can provide a repeatable and/or accurate alignment between a cephalometric collimator and cephalometric sensor.

Method and apparatus for aligning of cephalometric imaging device collimator

A method for forming a surgical guide for a dental patient rotates material about a rotation axis to a first angular position and drills a drill guiding hole using a drilling tool having a drilling tool axis. The drill guiding hole is centered about a guide axis that is orthogonal to the rotation axis. A first planar surface of the guide is formed from the material, wherein the first surface is. oblique to the guide axis. The material is repositioned to orient the first surface orthogonal to the drilling tool. A hole pattern is formed having two or more positioning holes in the first surface, with the pattern corresponding to a pin pattern in a tray that is positionally registered to a dental arch of the patient. A second planar surface of the surgical guide is formed, parallel to the first planar surface.

A support apparatus for positioning a patient's head in an imaging apparatus. A main body has opposing first and second sides and supports first and second holding members for positioning against the patient's head. The first holding member has a first reference position along the first side of the main body and is coupled to a first transport apparatus that extends outward from the main body. The second holding member has a second reference position along the second side of the main body and is coupled to a second transport apparatus that extends outward from the main body. An extension locking mechanism within the main body locks the position of the second transport apparatus when the first holding member is moved from the first reference position and locks the position of the first transport apparatus when the second holding member is moved from the second reference position.
