The invention generally relates to methods of treating short telomere disorders using known compounds and pharmaceutical compositions comprising same. More specifically, the disclosed methods comprise, in one aspect, the step of administering to the subject an effective amount of at least one lithium compound or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof, thereby treating the subject for the short telomere disorder. Compositions and methods for treatment of short telomere disorders

This disclosure relates to methods for treating tissue injury in a mammal. The methods include administering a therapeutically effective amount of a polypeptide having an isoelectric point of at least about 4.8 and/or a molecular weight of less than about 30 kDa to the mammal.

Use of polypeptides in treating tissue injury

The key obstacle for current resuscitation is the acutely limited time window. The major reason for the limited time window is that the brain and spinal cord are extremely vulnerable to hypoxic-ischemic insult. A method and a lymph-like fluid composition for resuscitation of cardiac arrest are provided. The method includes steps of inhibiting CSF production, removing CSF, replacing the CSF with invented lymph-like fluid composition plus conventional CPR. The lymph-like fluid composition includes polypeptides, insulin, elevated magnesium concentration and ATP in artificial CSF.

Method and composition for resuscitation

After interruption of blood supply to central nervous system tissue, cerebral edema sets in. It has been shown that restoring blood flow to injured areas of the central nervous system after the onset of edema does not result in blood reperfusing the tissue. A composition and method for treating injured central nervous tissue, or preventing injury to central nervous system tissue is provided. The composition is generally an amphipathic lipid in an oil solution. The method provides for withdrawing cerebrospinal fluid from the subarachnoid spaces around the tissue to be treated or protected, and replacing that fluid with an approximately equivalent volume of the amphipathic lipid in oil composition. The treatment can be augmented with agents that suppress production of cerebrospinal fluid, or with other known agents.
