A method comprising: configuring a user equipment in a low activity state to operate according to a grant-free uplink transmission scheme; and in response to detecting at least one condition, scheduling a discontinuous reception state at the user equipment, during which the user equipment is configured to monitor for one or more messages intended for the user equipment.

Reception scheme

In accordance with some embodiments, an apparatus may include at least one processor and at least one memory including computer program code. The at least one memory and the computer program code can be configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least receive at least one random access preamble from user equipment. The at least one memory and the computer program code can be further configured to, configure at least one backoff indicator. The at least one memory and the computer program code can be further configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to at least transmit the at least one backoff indicator and at least one backoff configuration indicator to the user equipment. The at least one backoff configuration indicator is used to indicate how the at least one backoff indicator is applied.

Performing overload control for random access channel

Various communication systems may benefit from improved transmissions. For example, a network transmission may benefit from improved throughput and efficiency in non-schedule multiple access communications. A method includes selecting at a user equipment operating in a non-scheduled access scheme at least one of a first codeword or a second codeword based on an amount of data. The data in the non-scheduled access scheme can be spread according to a spreading sequence. The method also includes determining a transport block size for at least one of the first codeword or the second codeword. In addition, the method includes transmitting the data from the user equipment to a network node using at least one of the first codeword or the second codeword.

Codeword adaptation for non-orthogonal coded access

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products of preamble sequence management for contention based access are provided. One method may include a user equipment sending a contention based access (CBA) request message, such as a random access procedure (RACH) message, to a network node (e.g., a base station or eNB). The CBA request message may include an indication that the user equipment wants to obtain a preamble for CBA data transmission and is not for full network access. The method may then include receiving an allocation of a preamble for CBA from the network node.

Various communication systems may benefit from time discontinuous transmission. For example, narrow band Internet of things (NB-IoT) may benefit from having transmissions with sufficient time diversity to avoid unnecessary repetition. A method can include configuring a control channel and data channel partitioning pattern within a configured time period. The method can additionally include communicating with at least one user equipment based on the control channel and data channel partitioning pattern.

Time discontinuous transmission for narrow band internet of things

A method is provided including receiving, by a user equipment from a wireless network, an indication of a plurality of contention based transmission occasions and a monitoring window size that the user equipment monitors for feedback for the contention based transmission; determining, by a user equipment of a wireless network, whether an amount of user data can be transmitted on one or more of contention based transmission occasions; performing one or more contention based transmissions during the one or more of the contention based transmission occasions based at least on the determination; and monitoring for feedback for each of the performed contention based transmissions based at least on the monitoring window size, wherein the feedback includes feedback for each contention based transmission in a feedback mapping window.

PF/PO calculations and use thereof for EDRX

Methods and apparatuses for controlling communication with a communication device connected to a plurality of access points are described. Predefined inactivity in communications between a first access point and the communication device may be determined at the first access point. An indication of predefined inactivity in communications between the communication device and a second access point may be provided by the second access point. Connectivity state of the communication device is only changed when said predefined inactivity in communications between the first access point and the communication device has been determined and said indication has been provided.

Systems, methods, apparatuses, and computer program products for narrow band internet of things (NB-IoT) paging optimization are provided. One method includes, when extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) is not configured for a user equipment (UE), applying a maximum repetition number of each coverage enhancement (CE) mode for paging transmission and associating a different repetition number with each paging occasion (PO). When extended discontinuous reception (eDRX) is configured for the user equipment, the method includes associating each paging occasion (PO) with a different repetition number.

Paging optimization for narrow band internet of things (NB-IoT)

A method and apparatus for controlling header compression and decompression for a link of a packet data network, wherein a predetermined header extension size for the link is initially set, and wherein a packet which will not be used as reference for subsequent decompression is transmitted from the compressor to the decompressor, if an extension header list of a size larger than the predetermined header extension size has been received. At the decompressing side, the transmission of an acknowledgement is suppressed, if an extension header list of the size larger than a predetermined header extension size configured at the decompressor has been received. Thereby, inconsistency of compression context between compressor and decompressor is prevented and a higher compression efficiency is achieved since there is no need to repair the context and correctly decompressed packets can be delivered to upper network layers without discarding any packets.
