An apparatus of embodiments, as described herein, includes one or more processors to track data associated with movement of a computing device accessible to a user, and evaluate the data and compare a latency with latency thresholds, where the data indicates the latency and the latency thresholds associated with a frame. The one or more processors are further to maintain a current video encoding rate, if the latency is lower than a first latency threshold and greater than a second latency threshold. The current video encoding rate is decreased if the latency is equal to or greater than the first latency threshold, where the current video encoding rate is increased if the latency is lower than the second latency threshold. The one or more processors are further to present the frame at the computing device including one or more of a wearable device and a mobile device.

Dynamic video encoding and view adaptation in wireless computing environments

Apparatus, systems, articles of manufacture, and methods for processing video in virtual reality environments are disclosed. An example virtual reality display device to process video in a virtual reality environment includes a video analyzer to detect unsmooth video data in the stream of video data and a video library to provide alternative video data. The example device also includes a selector to receive the stream of video data, an indication of the unsmooth video data, and the alternative video data. The selector is to select the alternative video data to replace the unsmooth video data based on the indication of the unsmooth video data and output a modified stream of video data including the stream of video data with the alternative video data in place of the unsmooth video data. The example device also includes an output display to display the modified stream of video data.

Video processing in virtual reality environments

Beamforming is used in wireless link communication to improve a wireless link through increased channel capacity and diversity by focusing a beam, such as from multiple antennas, in the direction of the receiver. Where the receiver may be capable of measurements relevant to beamforming, more particularly measurements that vary or are otherwise dependent upon changes in beamforming settings, reference to such measurements and corresponding beamforming settings may improve performance. In this Disclosure, a sink device transmits a data stream to a source device, wherein said data stream comprises the position of the sink device. The data stream may further comprise data such as link quality, heading information, or discretized location. The source device stores this data in a memory. When the wireless link deteriorates, the source device assesses its memory to select a candidate beamforming setting with some indicia of success, such as those that correspond closely to the sink device's position, the most recently used beamforming settings, or beamforming settings that previously resulted in a satisfactory wireless link quality.

Wireless link control and recovery using positional data

Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed to order a plurality of segments of an image for encoding and wireless transmission to a display device. The apparatus includes a segment orderer to arrange the segments in an encoding order for encoding. The encoding order is different than a scan line order, and encoding order is such that a center segment of the plurality of segments is to occupy a first position in the encoding order. The first position precedes a second position occupied by the center segment in the scan line order and the center segment corresponds to a center of the image. The apparatus also includes an encoder to encode the segments in the encoding order, and a wireless transmitter to transmit the encoded portions to the display device in the encoding order in which the encoded segments are encoded.

For example, one embodiment of an apparatus comprises: a first frame buffer to store image frames to be transmitted to a virtual reality apparatus; tile-based image rendering circuitry and/or logic to concurrently render multiple tiles of a first image frame, wherein tiles are categorized core tiles or a peripheral tiles; tile-based transmission circuitry and/or logic to transmit a first core tile rendered to the virtual reality apparatus before one or more remaining tiles have been rendered, the tile-based transmission circuitry and/or logic to continue to transmit one or more subsequently rendered core tiles following the first tile until all core tiles have been transmitted; and the tile-based transmission circuitry and/or logic to identify a subset of peripheral tiles to be transmitted based on first coordinate/offset data and to responsively transmit the subset of peripheral tiles.

Apparatus and method for optimizing time/space warp for virtual reality using dynamic tiling and dirty tile marking

An apparatus and related operating method of a mmWave WHMD, are provided. The apparatus utilizes beamforming information to determine direction information indicating a direction of a received signal from an external component that is connected to the apparatus via a VR data link. The apparatus selects and sets a current MCS that supports a data load of the VR data link. The apparatus, while maintaining the VR data link, determines a VR data link condition by a determination that a received signal is stronger or weaker than a predetermined signal strength level for the current MCS of the VR data link. When stronger, the processing circuitry is configured to signal a transceiver to widen a beam from a current beamwidth to a new wider beamwidth in a direction based on the direction information to maintain the current MCS and data load of the VR data link.

Examples are disclosed for transmitting video content. In some examples, cyclic redundancy check (CRC) values may be added to video content for video frames to be presented or displayed in a given region of a display. Results of CRC functions for consecutive video frames that use the added CRC values may be compared to determine whether the video content for the consecutive video frames is static video content. Video content for at least one of the consecutive video frames may be withheld from being transmitted if the video content for the consecutive video frames is characterized as static video content. Multiple CRC values or different CRC values may be added to further determine whether video content for the consecutive video frames or for subsequent consecutive video frames is also characterized as static video content.
