Implementation for initializing a bare metal host to an operational hypervisor is disclosed. A method of the disclosure includes detecting, by a processing device, an application programming interface request (API) request to initiate configuration of a host operating system (OS) on a host. The method also includes receiving, by the processing device, from a virtualization management system, a request to install the host to a hypervisor with a defined configuration. The method further includes providing, by the processing device, a status of a configuration of the host to the virtualization management system in view of the defined configuration.

Initializing a bare-metal host to an operational hypervisor

A software package to be installed on a host system may be identified. A service of the host system that is unavailable during an installation of the software package on the host system may be identified where the installation changes a configuration of the service. A determine may be made as to whether the service that is unavailable during the installation of the software package on the host system is being used by a virtual machine (VM) that is associated with the host system. A notification may be provided in view of the determination of the service associated with the software package being used by the VM that is associated with the host system.

Configuring dependent services associated with a software package on a host system

A software package to be installed on a host system may be received. Services of the host system that are associated with the software package may be identified. Furthermore, a determination may be made if at least one service associated with the software package are currently used by at least one virtual machine associated with the host system. If at least one service is currently used by at least one virtual machine then a notification may be provided.
