The invention provides polyester polyol compositions and resin blends, useful as components of polyurethane and polyisocyanurate polymers, produced from cyclohexane oxidation reaction byproducts, such as water extracts and non-volatile distillation residues from the reaction. Such byproducts of industrial processes for preparation of adipic acid and caprolactam, important intermediates in the production of various types of nylon, have hitherto largely been used only as fuels. The present invention provides value-added products, methods for making, and methods for using the byproduct-derived polyester polyol compositions. For example, the invention provides polyurethane (PU) and/or polyisocyanurate (PIR) polymers made using the polyol compositions and polyfunctional isocyanates. The PU and PIR polymers can be used as adhesives, binders (e.g., for wood fibers), coatings (e.g., for controlled release fertilizers), and foams.

An acid-dyeable polyester composition comprising (a) polyester and (b) secondary amine or secondary amine salt in an amount effective to promote acid-dyeability. The acid-dyeable polyester composition may be prepared by melt blending: the polyester; and polymeric additive prepared from (i) triamine containing secondary amine or secondary amine salt unit(s) and (ii) one or more other monomer and/or polymer units. Acid dyeable polyester compositions

A composition and a process for producing the composition are provided. The composition comprises repeat units derived from 1,3-propanediol; an organic acid, preferably a dicarboxylic acid, its salt, its ester, or combinations of two or more thereof; a polyether diol; and a sulfonated comonomer. The polyether diol can be present in the composition in the range of from about 10 to about 80 weight %. The process comprises contacting 1,3-propanediol with the organic acid, the polyether diol, and the sulfonated comonomer. The sulfonated comonomer can have the formula of (R&prime;OC(O)),A(R),S(O),OM in which each R&prime; can be the same or different and is each independently hydrogen, a C,to C,alkyl group, or a C,to C,hydroxyalkyl group; each R is independently a C,to C,alkyl group; A is an alkylene or arylene group; z is a number of from 0 to 2; and M is hydrogen, alkali metal ion, alkaline earth metal ion, quaternary ammonium, or ammonium ion.

Cationic dyeability modifier for use with polyester and polyamide

This invention relates to an improved process for dyeing cationic-dyeable polyamide fibers, especially carpet fibers, with an acid dye to provide stain-resistant fibers. The polyamide fibers contain cationically dyeable sulfonate groups along the polymer chain. The improvement involves adding certain water-soluble salts to a dyebath at a concentration of at least 20% based on the weight of fiber.

This invention relates to an improved process for making colored polyamide fibers. The process involves adding about 0.1 to about 3.0 weight percent polycarbonate to a polyamide melt prior to extruding the melt through a spinneret to make colored fibers.
