A direction-finding system is disclosed. The receiving system includes a channel sounder using a Pseudo-Doppler Antenna Array (PDAA) configured to locate transmitters and to sound the channel at pre-defined operating frequency.

Method and system for direction finding and channel sounding using pseudo-doppler antenna array

In an aspect, the disclosed technology relates to embodiments of a lossy ferrite-core and dielectric-shell (LFC-DS) structure in an axial-mode helical antenna (AM-HA) or a meandered dipole antennas. The instant topology can be used to facilitates the broader use of ferrite materials, including lossy ferrite material, for a miniature AM-HA or meandered dipole antennas, e.g., by overcoming the lossy characteristics of the lossy ferrite. The resulting miniature AM-HA can be used for high frequency operation, including at over 1 GHz, making the instant topology suitable for very high frequency (VHF) and ultra-high Frequency (UHF) applications.

Satellites require a suitable antenna for line of sight microwave communication with the ground. Disclosed here is an Archimedean spiral antenna backed by a copper cavity containing quadruple conical perturbations. The antenna meets the required size, mass, transmitting power, bandwidth, and circular polarization for a satellite (e.g., CubeSat) environment while providing immunity to the mounting position.

Various implementations include an electric motor including an annular radial stator, an annular axial stator, and a rotor. The annular radial stator has an opening with an inner surface and distributed windings disposed along at least the inner surface of the opening. The annular axial stator has concentrated windings disposed along at least a first side of the axial stator. The rotor includes two or more magnets. Flux from the two or more magnets interacts with one or both of a magnetic field created by the radial stator windings or axial rotor windings. The rotor is disposed within the radial stator opening and the axes of the axial stator and radial stator are coincident with the rotor axis. The flux interacting with one or both of the radial stator magnetic field or the axial stator magnetic field turns the rotor about the rotor axis.

Disclosed herein is a method and system for using ferrite cores to suppress harmonic radiation with microstrip patch antennas. In certain embodiments, the ferrites cores exemplified herein significantly suppressed second and third harmonic radiation generated by RF components coupled to the microstrip patch antenna.

Described and disclosed herein is a wideband polarized patch antenna and the antenna array that can cover mmWave frequency band from 24.3 to 29.6 GHz for 5G applications, and a feeding structure for such an antenna comprising a single element of a polarized helical-shaped L-probe fed patch antenna (HLF-PA) package.

Wideband millimeter (mmWave) antenna

Various implementations include a spoke-type rotor design that exhibits low torque ripple with competitive torque density. The rotor includes a rotor core, rotor core (RC) magnets, nonmagnetic caps disposed on an outer radial end of each RC magnet, and flux directing (FD) magnets disposed circumferentially between adjacent RC magnets. Each nonmagnetic cap has a radially tapered shape (e.g., trapezoidal). An outer radial end of each cap and an outer radial end of each RC magnet opening define an air gap therebetween. The magnetic flux directions of the RC magnets are circumferentially directed clockwise or counterclockwise, and the flux directions of circumferentially adjacent RC magnets are opposite from each other. The magnetic flux directions of the FD magnets are directed radially inwardly or outwardly, and the flux directions of circumferentially adjacent FD magnets are opposite from each other. The RC and/or FD magnets may include rare-earth free materials.

Low torque ripple spoke-type permanent magnet motor

The exemplified systems and methods provides a low-profile stacked patch multi-frequency antenna (e.g., a dual-frequency antenna). A design is disclosed which is configured to operate at the 5.9-GHz band (e.g., for Dedicated Short Range Communications) and the 28-GHz band (e.g., for 5G communications). With a low-profile, the exemplified systems and methods can be integrated into existing microelectronic packaging systems as well as readily integrated into communication systems having smaller form factor.

An integrated magnetic inductor is provided with an inductor coil, magnetic film, and a substrate. The magnetic film can be placed between the neighboring inductor coils, and the thickness of the magnetic film is greater than the coil thickness. In addition, the magnetic film includes exchange-coupled magnetic materials. The exchange-coupled magnetic materials provide improved permeability and fat the frequency of interest for the integrated magnetic inductor.

A magnetic antenna structure has a substrate (e.g., a flexible printed circuit board (PCB) carrier), a magneto-dielectric (MD) layer, and an antenna radiator. The MD layer increases electromagnetic (EM) energy radiation by lowering the EM energy concentrated on the antenna substrate. The resonant frequency and antenna gain of the magnetic antenna structure are generally lower and higher, respectively, relative to dielectric antennas of comparable size. Thus, the magnetic antenna structure provides better miniaturization and high performance with good conformability.

An antenna module () has an antenna () that is formed on a ferrite substrate (), and the ferrite substrate is positioned within a small direct current (DC) magnetic field. The magnetic loss tangent of the ferrite is controlled by application of the small DC magnetic field, thereby improving antenna radiation efficiency and increasing the bandwidth of the antenna.

A low-profile multi-band antenna for telematics applications is described, where the antenna has multiple resonant frequencies. A single feed connects multiple transceivers to the antenna. The antenna has a height less than a centimeter and a surface area of around 60 square centimeters. The resonant frequencies of the antenna are determined by a center sub-patch and additional sub-patches that surround the center sub-patch. Ferrites, placed between the sub-patches and a ground plane, are used for tuning the resonant frequencies.

Low profile multi-band antennas for telematics applications

A magnetic supercapacitor has a dielectric layer positioned between magnetic layers. The magnetic layers may comprise hard, soft magnetic material or magnetic exchange coupled magnet (i.e. soft and hard magnet composite). A magnetic flux generated by the magnetic layers increases the permittivity of the dielectric layer, thereby increasing the capacitance and, hence, stored energy of the supercapacitor. When the magnetic layers comprise soft magnetic material, the capacitance of the supercapacitor can be varied. In this regard, current passing through a conductive segment within close proximity to the magnetic layers may be controlled in order to tune the capacitance as may be desired.

A MIMO antenna for mobile devices has a system board, and two or more microstrip lines extending along a top surface of the system board. The MIMO antenna additionally includes a ground plane extending along a bottom surface of the system board, wherein the ground plane has a Y-shaped slot. The MIMO antenna further includes one or more pairs of miniature antenna elements attached to the top surface of system board in contact with the at least two microstrip lines, wherein the antenna elements are slanted at &#xb1;45&#xb0; with respect to a center Z of an X Y coordinate system, and center of a radiation sphere, located proximate the Y-shaped slot.
