Moisture curable RTV-1 silicone elastomers with hydrophilic surfaces are produced from crosslinkable compositions containing a polyoxyethylene ether glycol terminated with both a Chydrocarbon group and an alkoxysilyl group.

Cross-linkable compositions based on organosilicon compounds

Organosilicon compounds and their use for producing hydrophilic surfaces

The present disclosure describes compounds of Formula (I) wherein m is 1 to 6, n is 6 to 10 and Ris a straight or branch chain siloxane, their use in methods to modify the surface of hydrophobic substrates to render the substrates superhydrophilic and surface-modified substrates. 

Surface-modifying silicone elastomers

Siliceous materials were prepared by adding one or more additives, including one or more water soluble polymers, and derivatives thereof, as well as trifunctional silanes, to sols containing tetraalkoxysilanes derived from polyols. The polymers facilitate phase separation of the growing silica gel matrix, leading to high surface area self-supporting silica gels with cure occurring at ambient temperatures. The materials also show a significant reduction in shrinkage properties and significant protein stabilization abilities.
