Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for media defect detection. For example, a media defect detection systems is disclosed that includes a data input derived from a medium, a fast envelope calculation circuit that receives the data input and provides a fast decay envelope value based on the data input, a slow envelope calculation circuit that receives the data input and provides a slow decay envelope value based on the data input, and a media defect detection circuit. The media defect detection circuit receives the slow decay envelope value and the fast decay envelope value, calculates a ratio value of the fast decay envelope value to the slow decay envelope value, and asserts a defect output based at least in part on the comparison of the ratio value to a defect threshold value.

Systems and methods for low latency media defect detection

Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for reducing low frequency loss in a magnetic storage device. For example, a data processing circuit is disclosed that includes an amplifier, two filters and a summation element. The amplifier provides an amplified output that is filtered using a first of the two filters to create a first filtered output. The first filtered output is then filtered using the second of the two filters to create a second filtered output. The summation element sums the first filtered output with the second filtered output to provide a pole altered output.

Systems and methods for reducing low frequency loss in a magnetic storage device

Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems and methods for reducing low frequency loss in a magnetic storage device. For example, a data processing circuit is disclosed that includes a digital filter that receives a series of digital samples and provides a filtered output. The filtered output is provided to a data detector that performs a data detection on the filtered output to create a detected output. A first summation element subtracts the filtered output from the detected output to create an error signal, and a second summation element subtracts the error signal from the filtered output to create a wander basis signal. A baseline correction feedback circuit receives the wander basis signal and provides a wander compensation signal. A derivative of the wander compensation signal is provided as feedback to the digital filter.
