An eye-imaging apparatus including red, green, and blue light sources, one or more optical lenses, a light guide cable to transmit light from the light source, a one-chip color image sensor including a shutter, the color image sensor being operable to measure red, green, and blue light in the imaging path and transmit measured colored light in respective red, green, and blue channels. The red, green, and blue light sources are sequentially flashed in synchronization with the operation of the image sensor and the color image sensor captures red, green, and blue images in synchronization with the flashed color. The color image sensor transmits the colored images on respective color channels one at a time.

Eye-imaging apparatus and method employing sequential flashing of illumination light in synchronization with the operation of an image sensor

Spectacles that control myopia progression have a central zone that achieves foveal vision correction and distributed micro-reticle(s) and corresponding micro-lens(es) around the paracentral and/or peripheral zone of the spectacle. Each micro-lens is disposed between its corresponding micro-reticle and the pupil of a wearer's eye. The micro-reticle(s) and micro-len(s) are integrated with the structure of the spectacle to partially block some of the paracentral and/or peripheral objects from surrounding optical environment. The rest of the paracentral and/or peripheral retinal areas are still available for a wearer's eye to sense the presence and movement of surrounding objects.

Anti-myopia-progression spectacles and associated methods

Myopia is a clinically significant and growing problem around the world. A major cause is the increasing time spent indoors by children, for example, playing video games, studying, and watching television. Exposure to sufficient overall light levels is known to be protective, and prevents the onset and also delays the progression of myopia. Embodiments include a computerized myopia progression retarding ('MPR') system that includes a light source configured to provide illumination and an illumination sensor configured to sense ambient light. The MPR system also includes a processor configured to dynamically adjust the illumination in terms of either wavelength bands or luminance provided by the light source to solicit a target wavelength band or luminance for retarding myopia progression of a user.

Systems and methods for retarding myopia progression

A wearable optical device increases a Resolvable Object Distance Range (RODR) thereby reducing focusing demands of a plurality of objects located along a visual angle distance for a user with presbyopia or myopia. The devise includes a negative refractive element and a positive refractive element located along an optical axis. The negative refractive element and the positive refractive element are separated from each other by a separation space and at a separation distance suitable for mounting on a spectacle. A surface of a non-central zone of the negative refractive element or the positive refractive element is a Fresnel surface. The separation space is filled by an intermediate media with a refractive index lower than that of the negative refractive element or the positive refractive element. In one embodiment, the intermediate media is an optical grade resin or polymer. In another embodiment, a spacing seal is located around a periphery of the separation space, and the intermediate media is a low-humidity gas for reducing condensation within the separation space during ambient temperature changes.

Spectacles for presbyopia treatment and myopia progression control and associated methods

An eye-imaging apparatus and system is described including circular fiber array ends arranged at skewed angles relative to the optical axis of the imaging path, a light intensity distribution converter along the illumination path to convert a bell-shaped distribution into a top-hat distribution, an image sensor, and high frequency response light source(s) operating in flash illumination mode in synchronization with the image sensor. As a result, unnecessary exposure of illumination light to a patient eye is minimized while the illumination light can span a wide enough coverage range with desired intensity and spectral distribution to cover the desired angular field of view and spectral range on a retina.

A prism array light redistribution apparatus for an eye imaging system including light transmitting fibers, light receiving fibers, and a micro prism array optically coupled to bridge the light transmitting fibers and the light receiving fibers, configured to receive light having a bell-shaped angular distribution from the light transmitting fibers and refract light emitted by the light transmitting fibers to enter the light receiving fibers.

Eye-imaging system and apparatus with coordinated illuminator fibers having a skewed fiber angle

Prism array and apparatus for eye-imaging system

An eye-imaging apparatus and system is described including arrayed optical fibers having a high numerical aperture and circular fiber array ends arranged at skewed angles relative to the optical axis of the imaging path. Circular fiber array ends are arranged to emit the illumination light into an eye at a skewed angle and a light intensity distribution converter along the illumination path to convert a bell-shaped distribution into a top-hat distribution. As a result, illumination uniformity on the retina of the eye is improved.

Eye-imaging system and apparatus

Presbyopia treatment and anti-myopia spectacles comprise a negative refractive element facing an object and a positive refractive element facing a patient eye. The negative refractive element has a central zone with a strong negative refractive power. The positive refractive element has a central zone with a less strong positive refractive power. The front focal point of the central zone of the positive lens does not have to overlap with the front focal point of the central zone of the negative lens. The negative refractive element and the positive refractive element are axially separated by a relatively small distance such that the combination of the two refractive elements is compact enough to be made into an easily wearable spectacle. For myopia progression control, at least one portion of the paracentral and/or peripheral zone of at least one of the two refractive elements has a relative add power with respect to that of the central zone such that the image of an off-axis distant or intermediate object is formed in front of a corresponding paracentral or peripheral retina area to create myopic defocus on the corresponding retina area.

Spectacles and associated methods for presbyopia treatment and myopia progression control

In order to take advantage of the real time nature of intra-operative refraction or wavefront aberrometry, and visually make the history of the measurements apparent to a surgeon, a histogram of frequency vs IOL results calculated from an IOL formula is computed and IOL suggestions being accumulated are displayed in a histogram. One embodiment is a means to present to a surgeon a histogram of intra-operative refractions. Another embodiment is to automatically and intra-operatively detect the aphakic phase of a cataract surgery to display a histogram of a recommended IOL power.

Obtaining and displaying histogram and/or confidence of intra-operative refraction and/or IOL power recommendation

In one embodiment, a wavefront sensor is combined with a slit lamp eye examination device so that real time aberration values of an eye being examined can be viewed during a slit lamp eye examination session.

Optimizing vision correction procedures

A wavefront sensor includes a light source configured to illuminate a subject eye, a detector, a first beam deflecting element configured to intercept a wavefront beam returned from a subject eye when the subject eye is illuminated by the light source and configured to direct a portion of the wavefront from the subject eye through an aperture toward the detector and a controller, coupled to the light source and the beam deflecting element, configured to control the beam deflecting element to deflect and project different portions of an annular ring portion of the wavefront from the subject eye through the aperture and further configured to pulse the light source at a firing rate to sample selected portions of the annular ring at the detector.
