In an example, a system may include an object store for storing objects, wherein each object is identified by an object signature generated according to a first cryptographic function, wherein the objects stored in the object store exhibit a hierarchical relationship from a root object. The system may receive a second cryptographic function for the object store, receive an I/O request affecting an object in the object store, encode the affected object according to the second cryptographic function, and persist the affected object alongside other objects in the object store encoded according to the first cryptographic function.

Object signatures in object stores

Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media for inter-node data replication while reducing network traffic for remote backup. A system receives a command to duplicate a dataset, located on a source network node, to a remote network node, accesses, on the source network node, signatures of a previous snapshot of the dataset and signatures of a current snapshot of the dataset, performs, at the source network node, a local signature comparison between the previous snapshot and the current snapshot to identify one or more signatures that do not match, sends the signatures that do not match to the remote network node, searches, on the remote network node, for the signatures that do not match, and sends data associated with the signatures that do not match to the remote network node for incorporation within a current remote snapshot if they do not exist on a current remote network node.

System and method for optimized signature comparisons and data replication

An approach is provided that authenticates, at an on-line distributor, an end user that has connected to the distributor over a communications network. One or more sets of rules are sent from the distributor to one or more vendor sites. The distributor receives vendor product data pertaining to the vendor sites. The vendor product data received from the vendor sites is based on the sets of rules sent to the respective vendors. A product request is received at the distributor from the authenticated end user. The vendor product data received at the distributor is queried using a query that is based on the product request with the query resulting in a search result that is returned to the end user.

A backup program running on a computing device receives a search query. The backup program transmits the search query to a search program. The backup program receives search results corresponding to the search query from the search program. The search results include a list of data objects stored on a storage device and that satisfy the search query. The backup program backs up one or more selected data objects of the list of data objects. The backup program can periodically and automatically without user interaction retransmit the search query to the search program, and receive updated search results corresponding to the search query from the search program. The updated search results include an updated list of data objects stored on the storage device that satisfy the search query. The backup program can then back up the data objects within the updated list of data objects.
