A auto-injector device having a housing (), a cartridge for containing a medicament, a first needle tip () arranged to penetrate said cartridge, a second needle tip () for injecting said medicament into a target, said first and second needle tips being in fluid communication, a plunger rod () to move said cartridge so as to be pierced by said first needle tip, said plunger rod () having a recess () in an end thereof, the improvement comprising a battery (), a printed circuit board () electrically communicating with said battery, an electrically conductive element () having a first end in electric communication with said battery () and printed circuit board (), a second end within said recess () in said plunger rod (), said second end being electrically insulated, a coil spring () surrounding said electrically conductive element and being spaced therefrom, the arrangement being such that when said plunger rod () is activated, said second end of said electrically conductive element is released from said recess () in said plunger rod () and contacts said coil spring () to complete an electric circuit.

A transfer device for pharmaceuticals comprising a housing which has an open bottom permitting insertion of a vial within the housing, a piercing member mounted within the housing and having an interior passageway formed therein, a connector for a syringe located on top of the housing, and a moveable member mounted within the housing, the moveable member being moveable from a first position preventing access to the piercing member and a second position permitting access to the piercing member when the vial is inserted in the housing.

A transfer system suitable for medicaments comprising a vial socket, a housing having first and second open ends with the first open end being releasably connected to the vial socket, a needle hub mounted within the housing, a needle having first and second piercing ends mounted in the needle hub, a vial having a neck and a body, the vial being inserted in the vial socket and being non removably retained therein, a cartridge having a plunger sealing an open end thereof and a septum located at an opposite end of the cartridge, and an activation cap for causing the needle to penetrate a septum of the vial and the septum of the cartridge to permit transfer of components therebetween.
