A method and apparatus for blowing down a compressed air system when temperature is at or below a predefined temperature threshold is provided. Temperature sensors in the compressed air system monitor temperature and a control processor determines when the temperature is at or below the predefined temperature threshold. When it is determined temperature is at or below the predefined temperature threshold, the control processor operates a solenoid blow-down valve that depressurizes the compressed air system.

A compressor includes a male rotor () having a screw-type boy portion () extending from a first end () to a second end () and held within a housing assembly for rotation about a first rotor axis (). A female rotor () has a screw-type female body portion () meshed with the male body portion and extending from a first end () to a second end () and held within the housing assembly for rotation about a second rotor axis (). An end seal () has a first surface () engaging the female body portion first end and being asymmetric around the second axis.

A conjugate pair of intermeshing rotors include helical lobes having helical crests and intervening grooves and are adapted for rotation about parallel axes within a working space of a screw rotor machine. Each rotor has a tip circle, a pitch circle, and a root circle. One rotor of each pair is a female rotor formed such that a major portion of each lobe of the female rotor is located inside the pitch circle of the female rotor. The other rotor is a male rotor formed such that a major portion of each lobe of the male rotor is located outside the pitch circle of the male rotor. The lobes of one rotor follow the grooves of the other rotor to form a continuous sealing line between the pair of rotors. Each of the lobes have a primary flank portion and a secondary flank portion. The primary flank portion of the lobes of the female rotor have a profile formed from at least one ellipse, and the primary flank portion of the lobes of the male rotor have a profile formed from at least one ellipse.

Meshing helical rotors

A curved side oil or fluid separator element for separating liquid or oil from a gas flow has a body portion made of filter media with opposing upper and lower ends. A curved side extends between the upper and lower ends and rotates 360&#xb0; about a central axis of the body portion to form a curved surface of the body portion. The curved side of the body portion can be any one of a hyperbolically curved side, a circular arc curved side, an elliptically curved side, or any other curve except a straight line, and any combinations of these curves. In one aspect, the curved side of the body portion is adapted for in-out gas flow allowing the gas flow to exit through the curved side to a communicating outlet of a separator housing. In another aspect, the curved side of the body portion is adapted for out-in gas flow for receiving the gas flow through the curved side from a communicating inlet of the separator housing.

An axial slide valve is provided with an axially extending fluid chamber at each end with one chamber receiving a spring and being acted on by suction pressure and the other chamber coacting with a fixed piston and being acted upon by discharge pressure or the like whereby the slide valve is positioned so as to balance the spring and fluid pressures and thereby the compressor capacity.

Compact control mechanism for axial motion control valves in helical screw compressors

The refrigeration system of the present invention includes multiple economizer circuits. After flowing through the condenser, a first path of refrigerant is split from the main path. The refrigerant in the first path is expanded to a lower pressure and cools the refrigerant in the main path in the high pressure economizer heat exchanger. The refrigerant in the first path then returns to the compressor in a high pressure economizer port. A second path of refrigerant is then split from the main path. The refrigerant in the second flow path is expanded to a lower pressure and cools the refrigerant in the main path in the low pressure economizer heat exchanger. The refrigerant in the second path then return to the compressor in a low pressure economizer port. The refrigerant in the main path is then evaporated. The dual stage economizer refrigeration system can be employed with a screw compressor or a scroll compressor.

Refrigeration system employing multiple economizer circuits

A scroll expresser of a refrigerant system includes a non-orbiting expander scroll plate and an orbiting expander scroll plate which form a plurality of expansion chambers and a non-orbiting compressor scroll plate and a orbiting compressor scroll plate which form a plurality of compression chambers. The scroll expresser expands high pressure refrigerant in the expansion chambers to low pressure vapor refrigerant and liquid refrigerant. The liquid refrigerant exits the scroll expresser for evaporation. The vapor refrigerant is compressed in the compression chambers and mixes with the refrigerant exiting the compressor. Alternatively, the orbiting scroll plates are integrated into one component.

The expansion device in a refrigeration or air conditioning system is an expressor. The expresser is made up of a twin screw expander and a twin screw compressor with rotors of the expander functioning as timing gears.

Oil free screw expander-compressor

Saturated or sub-cooled liquid is supplied to the expander of an expressor. Starting just prior to the end of the inlet process or just after the completion of the inlet process, high pressure vapor from the expressor compressor discharge is supplied to the cavity defining a trapped volume under going expansion.
