A luminaire includes a luminaire control circuit and a disinfection light source to emit a disinfection light in an ultraviolet (UV) band for disinfecting a vicinity of a physical space of a target pathogen that is exposed to the disinfection light. The UV band is 200 nanometers (nm) to 230 nm wavelength. The luminaire receives a control signal based on at least the mounting height of the luminaire. The luminaire adjusts a UV radiation threshold limit based on the control signal. The luminaire controls, via a driver circuit, the disinfection light source over a dose cycle to emit the disinfection light continuously or during the plurality of periods for disinfecting the vicinity to substantially obtain the target pathogen UV radiation level and restrict the total UV radiation threshold exposure level by the adjusted UV radiation threshold limit based on the control signal.

An example of a light fixture is configured to receive, manually or wirelessly from and external device, an instruction to update a setting of the light fixture to a selected intensity or a selected color temperature. An instruction received from the external device may override an instruction provided via manual control. The light fixture may include a set of cool light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and a set of warm LEDs. A processing unit of the light fixture may utilize pulse-width modulation to cause the light fixture to emit light having the selected intensity or selected color temperature by implementing a particular duty cycle of a control signal for the cool LEDs and a particular duty cycle of a control signal for the warm LEDs corresponding to the selected intensity or selected color temperature.

An example control system includes a set of light fixtures connected to a hub, where each light fixture includes a hub-communication device configured to communicate with the hub and a direct communication device configured to communicate directly with other light fixtures. Together, the light fixtures form a mesh network facilitated by the use of their direct communication devices. An external device communicates an instruction to a light fixture, and the instruction is propagated throughout the mesh network through communications among the light fixtures using their respective direct communication devices. As a result, each light fixture to which the instruction applies receives and complies with the instructions. The light fixtures are also configured to receive instructions from the hub, such that a light fixture is configured to receive instructions over dual networks.

An example luminaire includes a white light source (e.g. LEDs emitting white light in a region of the CIE color chart within three Macadam ellipses below the black body curve) and a violet light source emitting light in a wavelength range of approximately 380 nm to 450 nm (e.g. 405 nm LEDs) for deactivating bacteria, such as Methicillin-Resistant(MRSA) on a surface exposed to illumination from the luminaire. A controller coupled to the sources pulses the violet light source at an irregular rate and interval over a time period to apply a deactivation dosage of the violet light to bacteria within range of the emissions. When ON, the violet source emits light for deactivating bacteria at an intensity higher than the concurrent intensity of the white light.

Luminaire and methodologies for combined visible illumination and deactivation of bacteria

An ultraviolet ('UV') emission device may emit energy towards a movable surface of a conveyor system. A housing of the UV emission device may attach to a frame of the conveyor system. A lateral edge of the housing may extend across the moveable surface. The housing and a portion of the moveable surface may be inclined with respect to the frame. A barrier bracket of the UV emission device may support an absorptive barrier along the lateral edge, the absorptive barrier configured to contact the moveable surface. In a first position of the barrier bracket, the absorptive barrier contacts the moveable surface and the barrier bracket activates an interlock switch. In a second position of the barrier bracket, the barrier bracket deactivates the interlock switch. Responsive to deactivation of the interlock switch, a controller may provide a control signal to decrease power to the UV energy emission element.

Techniques for directing ultraviolet energy towards a moving surface

A luminaire includes a luminaire control circuit and a disinfection light source to emit a disinfection light in an ultraviolet (UV) band for disinfecting a vicinity of a space of a target pathogen that is exposed to the disinfection light. The UV band is 200 nanometers (nm) to 230 nm wavelength. The luminaire initiates a dose cycle of a vicinity in which the disinfection light source emits the disinfection light continuously or during a plurality of periods of a dose cycle from the disinfection light source by recording a beginning time of the dose cycle. The luminaire controls, via a driver circuit, the disinfection light source over the dose cycle to emit the disinfection light continuously or during the plurality of periods for disinfecting the vicinity to substantially obtain a target pathogen UV radiation level and restrict a total UV radiation threshold exposure level by a UV radiation threshold limit.

An ultraviolet ('UV') emission device may emit energy towards a movable surface of a conveyor system, A housing of the UV emission device may attach to a frame of the conveyor system. A lateral edge of the housing may extend across the moveable surface. The housing and a portion of the moveable surface may be inclined with respect to the frame. A barrier bracket of the UV emission device may support an absorptive barrier along the lateral edge, the absorptive barrier configured to contact the moveable surface. In a first position of the barrier bracket, the absorptive barrier contacts the moveable surface and the barrier bracket activates an interlock switch. In a second position of the barrier bracket, the barrier bracket deactivates the interlock switch. Responsive to deactivation of the interlock switch, a controller may provide a control signal to decrease power to the UV energy emission element.

A light fixture includes a housing containing a light engine, and a wireless baffle module. The wireless baffle module includes a baffle coupled to the housing and used for focusing light emitted from the light engine. The wireless baffle module further includes a wireless printed circuit board assembly coupled to an antenna. The wireless printed circuit board assembly receives and processes wireless signals from the antenna, and sends control signals to the light engine based on the wireless signals. The wireless baffle module may be coupled to a lighting system with an existing non-wireless module, or be used to replace a wireless baffle module with the same or different wireless protocol.

A light fixture controller is configured for controlling the color temperature and intensity of a light fixture that includes at least two LED groups. Each LED group includes multiple LEDs configured to produce light at certain color temperatures. The light fixture controller receives a color temperature setting and an intensity setting for the light fixture and generates control signals based on these settings. A first control signal only turns on the first LED group for a first duration of a cycle and a second control signal only turns on the second LED group for a second duration of the cycle. The ratio between the first and second duration is determined based on the color temperature setting. The control signal further includes a dimming control signal for controlling a current flowing through the LED groups based on the intensity setting for the light fixture.

Battery charge function may be in an LED driver which eliminates the duplication of line interface circuitry. A single line interface circuit provides the input power conversion for both the battery charge function and normal operation of the LED driver. During a loss of power, the LEDs may be controlled using power from the battery backup module.

The input device includes a first selection mechanism communicatively coupled to the lighting device. The first selection mechanism receives a first input to transition the lighting system between a set of control states. The input device also includes a second selection mechanism communicatively coupled to the lighting device. The second selection mechanism receives a first rotational input to control a light intensity output of the lighting device or a correlated color temperature of the lighting device.
