This disclosure provides an improved system for culturing human embryonic stem cells. The cells are cultured in suspension so as to maximize the production capacity of the culture environment. The new culture system of this invention allows for bulk proliferation of hES cells in a more cost-effective manner, which facilitates commercial production of important products for use in human therapy.

Disclosed herein are spinal cord models including a cell scaffold including methacrylated hyaluronic acid (HAMA) and dopamine-modified hyaluronic acid (HA-Cat), and a spinal cord spheroid or organoid or a fragment thereof cultured on the cell scaffold. Said spinal cord spheroids or organoids or fragments thereof can be co-cultured with blood vessel spheroid organoids to form blood-spinal cord barrier models. In some embodiments of a method for making a hybrid neurovascular spheroid, the method includes i) propagating cortical cells to form a cortical spheroid; ii) propagating endothelial cells to form an endothelial spheroid; iii) propagating mesenchymal stem cells to form a mesenchymal cell culture; and iv) combining the cortical spheroid, endothelial spheroid, and mesenchymal spheroid under conditions to form the hybrid neurovascular spheroid.

A novel material for producing auxetic foams is disclosed. The material comprises a multiphase, multicomponent polymer foam with a filler polymer having a carefully selected glass transition temperature. Novel methods for producing auxetic foams from the material are also disclosed that consistently, reliably and quickly produce auxetic polyurethane foam at about room temperature (25&#xb0; C.). This technology overcomes challenging issues in the large-scale production of auxetic PU foams, such as unfavorable heat-transmission problem and harmful organic solvents.
