A drive pulley for a CVT has a fixed sheave, a fixed sheave shaft fixedly connected to the fixed sheave, a movable sheave, a movable sheave shaft fixedly connected to the movable sheave, a spider and at least one centrifugal actuator. The fixed sheave shaft is disposed at least in part inside the movable sheave shaft. The movable sheave is disposed axially between the spider and the fixed sheave. A biasing member biases the movable sheave axially away from the fixed sheave. A torque transfer assembly is operatively connected to at least one of the fixed sheave and the movable sheave. The torque transfer assembly transfers torque between the fixed sheave and the movable sheave. The biasing member, the at least one centrifugal actuator and the torque transfer assembly are disposed radially outward of the fixed and movable sheave shafts.

Continuously variable transmission drive pulley

A drive pulley for a CVT has a fixed sheave, a movable sheave, a spider, a biasing member biasing the movable sheave axially away from the fixed sheave, at least one centrifugal actuator and first and second rollers rotationally connected to one of the movable sheave and the spider. The first roller rolls along the other one of the movable sheave and the spider as the movable sheave moves axially. The second roller rolls along the other one of the movable sheave and the spider as the movable sheave moves axially. The first and second rollers transfer torque between the movable sheave and the spider.

A method for forming a profile having at least three consecutive concave surfaces in an internal surface of a metal part includes piercing the metal part to create at least three consecutive concave surfaces. First, second and third concave surfaces respectively have first, second and third radii of curvature. The second concave surface is between the first and third concave surfaces. The second radius of curvature is different from the first and third radii of curvature. The method includes carburizing the metal part, grinding the second concave surface, and linear broaching the first and third concave surfaces with an abrasive-covered broach. A method for forming a groove in a surface of a metal part includes broaching the surface to create a groove having a groove surface, carburizing the metal part, and broaching a portion of the groove surface with an abrasive-covered broach after carburizing the metal part.

Groove manufacturing method

A drive pulley for a CVT has a fixed sheave, a movable sheave, a spider, a biasing member biasing the movable sheave axially away from the fixed sheave, at least one centrifugal actuator and at least one roller assembly. The at least one roller assembly has first and second rollers rotationally connected to one of the movable sheave and the spider and abutting another one of the movable sheave and the spider, the first roller rolling along the other one of the movable sheave and the spider as the movable sheave moves axially, the second roller rolling along the other one of the movable sheave and the spider as the movable sheave moves axially. The first and second rollers transfer torque between the movable sheave and the spider.
