Multiple layer interlayers having enhanced optical and acoustic properties are provided, along with methods of making and using the same. Interlayers as described herein may include at least two outer skin layers and an inner core layer, with one of the outer skin layers having a different thickness than the other at one or more locations along the interlayer. The multi-layer interlayer may also exhibit acoustic properties and, in some cases, may have an overall wedged thickness profile. Additionally, in some aspects, interlayers and laminates formed therefrom may also provide reduced infrared energy transmission, without sacrificing acoustic and/or optical performance.

Polymeric interlayers for use in making multiple layer panels having a unique balance of properties are provided. Single and multiple layer interlayers according to various embodiments of the present invention can be used to form multiple layer panels that exhibit both enhanced rigidity and improved impact resistance, while still retaining desirable optical performance. Interlayers and multiple layer panels of the present invention may be particularly suitable for use in a wide range of applications, including, for example, in many indoor and outdoor architectural and structural applications.

Polymeric interlayers and multiple layer panels made therefrom exhibiting enhanced properties and performance

A polyvinyl acetal poly(vinyl acetal), such as polyvinyl butyral, resin formulation, a method of extruding poly(vinyl acetal) resins, and related materials and products that provide for monolithic poly(vinyl acetal) sheets and glass panes having high Tg of at least 50&#xb0; C. and high modulus at acceptable rates as indicated by their high melt flow index. This is made possible by a reduction in the amount of plasticizer while using a low molecular weight resin not to exceed 160,000 to obtain a thermoplastic resin having a high melt flow index and high Tg. The articles made with these monolithic interlayer sheets can be used in applications that require good modulus at outdoor temperatures.

High Tg monolithic poly(vinyl acetal) sheet

A multilayer interlayer structure having a low M/high Tg layer and a high Mlayer, the interlayer having a high E' modulus and a higher Tg. The high Tg layer has a Tg of at least 50&#xb0; C. and a weight average molecular weight of not more than 160,000. The high Mlayer has a molecular weight greater than 160,000. The interlayer structure has increased stiffness without having to increase its thickness, and has an increased Tg to enable the structure to be used in applications that require good modulus at outdoor temperatures.

Multilayer interlayers having high Tg and high modulus

Multiple layer interlayers comprising pairs of alternating polymer layers are provided, along with methods of making and using the same. Multiple layer interlayers according to embodiments of the present invention may include more than three polymer layers and may exhibit desirable acoustic and optical properties, which may make them suitable for use in various types of multiple layer panels, including safety glass for automotive and architectural applications.

Multiple layer interlayers having enhanced properties

Resin compositions, layers, and interlayers comprising two or more thermoplastic polymers and at least one RI balancing agent for adjusting the refractive index of at least one of the resins or layers is provided. Such compositions, layers, and interlayers exhibit enhanced optical properties while retaining other properties, such as impact resistance and acoustic performance.
