An image having enhanced cohesiveness is provided by treating the image with heat, ultraviolet radiation or chemical agents prior to transfer of the image from a photoconductor. Treating the developed image improves the efficiency of transfer, reduces the amount of residue remaining on the photoconductor and enables high quality images on a wide variety of substrates to be obtained.

Enhancing cohesiveness of developed images

An organic photoconductor including a base layer formed of a first material and a photoconductive layer formed of a second material. The organic photoconductor being characterized in that when it is maintained in a curved orientation with the photoconductive layer facing outward, the photoconductive layer is subjected to less stress than the base layer. In one embodiment the first material is relatively more flexible and stretchable than said second material and the materials are pre-stressed in opposite senses. In a second embodiment the first material is relatively flexible and stretchable and the second material is an initially less flexible and stretchable material which has been chemically treated to increase its stretchability and flexibility.

Organic photoconductor

An imaging apparatus incorporating a substantially rectangular organic photoreceptor sheet having a base layer, a conductive layer and a photoconductive layer, wherein along one edge of the photoreceptor sheet there is an exposed conductive area, a drum having a longitudinal cavity formed therein and including a slot formed between the cavity and the cylindrical surface of the drum into which the one edge of the photoreceptor sheet is inserted and a rotatable element within the cavity which, in a locking position, presses the photoreceptor sheet against a wall of the cavity, fixedly and removably holding the photoreceptor sheet in place.

Photoreceptor sheet and imaging system utilizing same

An imaging process including the steps of forming an electrostatic image on a photoconductor surface, developing the electrostatic image with a liquid developer to form a developed image on the photoconductor surface, and transferring the developed image from the photoconductor surface to a final substrate. The cohesiveness of the developed image on the photoconductor surface is enhanced by the application of heat, ultraviolet radiation or a catalytic agent to the developed image on the photoconductor surface.

Imaging method and apparatus

A liquid toner based imaging machine includes a movable photoconductive member carrying an electrostatic latent image. A developing station contains a source of toner liquid that includes charged toner particles. The station is operatively associated with the carrier for contacting the carrier with the liquid for which develops the latent image by effecting the transfer of toner particles to the image. The developing station includes a developer electrode charged to a voltage intermediate voltages on the carrier representative of background and information of the image for attracting toner particles to an elemental area of the carrier when the electric field between the carrier and the electrode is directed towards the elemental area. The deposition of toner particles on the surface of the electrode is inhibited during development of the image by coating the surface of the electrode facing the carrier with a polymer material having a conductivity increasing additive.

Apparatus for image transfer including an image bearing surface arranged to support a liquid toner image thereon, including image regions and background regions, means for removing pigmented toner particles from the vicinity of background regions defined on the image bearing surface, means for rigidizing the toner image at the image regions, and an intermediate transfer member for receiving the toner image from the image bearing surface after rigidization thereof, for transfer of the image to a substrate.

A voltage waveform is applied to a development electrode in an electrophotographic apparatus to assist in the cleaning of the development electrode without degrading the photoconductor surface with excessive toner particles. The waveform establishes a bias voltage of one polarity on which are impressed pulses of the other polarity of sufficient amplitude and duration to dislodge charged toner particles from the surface of the development electrode, but insufficient to move the toner particles to the photoconductor surface.

Pulsed voltage development electrode cleaner

A method and apparatus capable of forming an image in an electrostatic apparatus having a photoconductor with a latent electrostatic image thereon. An electrical potential having a polarity opposite to the photoconductor is applied to a push development electrode thereby coating the image areas, as well as the background areas, of the latent electrostatic image. The background areas are cleaned by applying a potential having the same polarity as the photoconductor to a second pull development electrode.
