A mold device is described for use in a mold having a plurality of tread molding segments. Each tread molding segment has an end face for mating with an adjoining segment. The mold device includes a piston located on the segment and is actuated by the opening and closing of the mold. The piston is positioned within a first chamber and has a plunger end in communication with a working material and a spring. Each of the mold segments further includes a retractable blade assembly having a distal end in fluid communication with a second chamber. The first chamber is in fluid communication with the second chamber. Closing of the mold compresses the piston, forcing the working fluid to transfer from the first chamber to the second chamber, actuating the blade assembly.

A mold device is described for use in a mold having a plurality of tread molding segments. Each tread molding segment has an end face for mating with an adjoining segment. The mold device includes a piston located on the segment end face and is actuated by the opening and closing of the mold. Each of the mold segments further includes a retractable blade assembly having a first and second chamber; wherein the piston is positioned within the first chamber and having a plunger end in communication with a temperature sensitive block of material and a spring. The first chamber is in fluid communication with a second chamber, wherein said second chamber further comprises a retractable blade mounted within a blade collar wherein the blade collar is slidably received within said second chamber; said second chamber further comprises a temperature sensitive block of material and a spring.

A mold and molding device for forming a sunken groove in a tire is provided. The molding device includes a thin flexible wire having a desired cross-sectional shape. The wire thickness can range from about 0.5 mm to about 5 mm. The flexible wire is preferably hyperelastic. An optional molding element may be connected to the flexible wire.

Flexible molding device for manufacturing a sunken groove in a tire tread

The invention provides a segmented mold having a plurality of segments arranged to form an annular cavity to mold a tire. Each of the segments have an inner face for molding the tread, one or more channels, and one or more members received in each channel. The members are joined together to form a fluid manifold for circulating a fluid medium therein. Preferably, the channels are located on the outer radial surface of the segments.

Tire mold

A tire mold and a molding device for forming a sunken groove in a tire are provided. The molding device includes one or more rigid elements joined to a flexible member. The flexible member is formed from a flexible material, preferably a superalloy, or hyperelastic material. The molding device may further comprise a magnet. A portion of the flexible member is positioned in contact with a first surface of a relief forming element of a mold and the rigid element has a mating surface in mating contact with a second surface of the relief forming element. The mold further may further comprise a second relief forming element positioned adjacent the first relief forming element, wherein the rigid element further includes an outer surface in mating contact with a surface of said second relief forming element.

Flexible molding device for manufacturing a sunken groove or surface tie bar in a tire tread

A method and apparatus for venting a mold for vulcanizing a tire is provided. The mold comprises a plurality of tread segments for forming the tread on a green tire, wherein each of said tread segments further comprises an outer cavity plate having an interior surface and an exterior surface, the cavity plate having a plurality of channels. Each of the channels has a vent hole extending from the channel to the exterior surface of the outer cavity plate, and a rib mounted over the channel. The adjoining surface of the rib mating with the interior surface of the cavity plate, wherein one of the mating surfaces has a roughened surface forming a vent passageway with the interior surface of the cavity plate for venting mold gasses from the interior of the mold to the exterior of the mold. The invention may further include a blade and blade passageway wherein the blade outer surface has a rough outer surface for forming a vent passageway with the blade passageway.
